Is Lightroom Classic crashing Mac OS when moving folders via SMB?

Not sure if this is a Lightroom Classic bug or OS, but running Lightroom Classic 14.3.1 (It's happened with earlier versions too) on Mac OS Sequoia 15.4.1)

I usually ingest my photos to my Macbook M1, and edit there - then when the edit is complete and I've uploaded them to my website ready for my clients, it's time for me to move the photos to my archive, on a QNAP NAS, via Thunderbolt and the SMB protocol..

The problem is that there have been a number of times now when I click the folder in the library 'Folders' pane, dragging it to the relevant folder (still within Lightroom Classic Folders pane, but to the network drive), it'll start moving the files - then the Macbook reboots.. no warnings, just kernal panic and restarts, then says it restarted because of an error. I'll paste the error report below - but just to add, it only happens when moving the folder within Lightroom Classic.. using Finder, I've never had this restart the computer... I'd prefer to keep doing it via Lightroom Classic as it moves all the files and folders that I haven't imported into the Lightroom Classic catalogue, but doesn't require me to go through the 'locate folder' when moving contents via the filesystem.

I routinely move folders both within an SMB NAS share on Mac OS and from the local HD to the NAS share. I have never seen any issues.

Not really fair to compare moves within LrC to moves in Finder. Moves within LrC cause many writes to the catalog file, so different things are happening; moves within Finder do not have to write to the LrC catalog file.

It is my understanding that kernel panic are caused by bad drivers or by hardware malfunction. So, perhaps the log file indicates what is malfuctioning, but is is beyond my ability to decipher the log file.

I'm merely pointing out that moving the same folders in finder rather than Lightroom Classic has not caused a kernal panic yet.
That's not to say it's Lightroom Classic causing it, and I do say in my original post that I'm not sure if it's Lightroom Classic or the OS - but the fact it has only happened when moving folders within Lightroom Classic itself and not when moving massive folders or files using Finder gives me the impression it may have something to do with what Lightroom Classic is doing at the same time...

It could of course be some other software on the system which interferes with Lightroom Classic - so I'm not pointing any fingers as I do know other software could make it look like Lightroom Classic is the cause when it isn't.

It would be remiss of me to not post about it though, in case someone else has experienced it too and could offer a solution.

May I make a suggestion? Let's refer to Lightroom Classic as Lightroom Classic or LrC, and not as "Lightroom" and not as Lr. Clarity is a good thing.

When the operating system crashes, it is always a bug in the operating system (which includes drivers for devices). By definition, an app should never be able to crash the operating system, even if the app is doing something wrong.

Apple and Microsoft take such crashes seriously, because they often indicate possible security vulnerabilities. When the Mac rebooted, did you have the opportunity to submit the crash report to Apple, and if so, did you?

You might contact QNAP. External NAS devices should never be able to crash the operating system, and if they do, that's similarly by definition a bug in the operating system. However, QNAP might have a more vested interest in getting Apple to pay attention and likely have more direct channels into Apple's development process.

I did submit the crash report to Apple, and gave details on the steps involved prior to the crash.

I'll get in touch with QNAP support too to see if they're aware of anything.
