P: Flag & Color Label Shortcut Issues (Specific Languages AZERTY&QWERTZ)

  • October 27, 2021

I encounter an issue with the latest update (V11) on shortcuts to assign a color label (6,7,8,9).
Those shortcuts won't anymore assign a color label, it will now only remove the color label.
The shortcut "Assign a color label and go to next photo" (Shift+6 to 9) still work well as previously.
Please fix this adobe, my culling speed depend on it.
Thanks in advance,

Hello,

Full of hope, I just installed LR 11.3 (MacOS Monterey, french system, apple extended keyboard)… and it works no better. It should be considered as a real shame !

I'm using shortcut for color labeling and it has behaviour like I press it two times, but I pressed it only one time. And in same time it makes set color label and remove it :{ ...I find out, that this is problem when I set my keybord to czech - when I change it to english it works normaly. This is annoying. I work with czech QWERTY.

I applied also Auto advance - and it makes two labels.

Hello,

I posted a report on the problem of the color label shortcut issues all related to the numeric keyboard shortcuts (foreign langages) — MacOS Monterey.

If the star rating shortcuts 0 to 5 are functional, to my great surprise and dismay all the panel shortcuts ranging between Cmd 0 to Cmd 9 are no longer functional! The panel appears briefly and is immediately closed… this makes LR totally unusable and should be definitively rated as a major a bug and not only a matter open to discussion!

Workaround : installation of the latest version of Keycue witch also an easy keyboard remapping. Used in conjunction with the Stream deck accessory, it makes LR usable… as an emergency solution.

Hopefully this case will be rated by Adobe as a major bug, worth to be looked into and speedily corrected.

Best regards from France

All these shorcuts are no longer usable…

Version Lightroom Classic: 11.2 [ 202201281441-a5b5f472 ]

System : macOS 12.2.1 (21D62)

iMac Pro — Intel Xeon W 10 cores — 64 Gb RAM

In grid mode, using the shortcuts 6 -7 - 8 - 9 applies the corresponding color label.

Since installing MacOS 12 Monterey from Big Sur (using a French keyboard), unchanged Lightroom sofware, this odd behavior (same as decribed by several others in this thread)…

1. For example (applies to all colors), using the shortcut "8" for a green label results o-in the message "Supprimer le libellé vert" (Suppress the green label) and if the label is correctly applied ;

2. If the green label is already applied, pressing the "8" shortcut should normally remove the label… here it tells me "Définir le libellé sur vert" (Define the color label as green) !

Using Menu and other input other than shortcuts (star rating…) works flawlessly.

Corrective trials and observations :

• Reinitializing the preferences — deleting plist — didn't correct the misbehavior.

• Verified that these shortcuts were not used "system wide".

• Trying an U.S. keyboard setting MacOS wide to no avail.

• Misbehavior definitly related to the numeric pad (I am using an Apple extended keyboard) since "Shift §" assings the red color label and jumps, as expected to the following picture in grid mode. BUT "Shift 6" ("6" on the numeric pad) assigns a red color to two pictures (initial and following) while jumping to a third!

Hi everyone,

This problem is still going as frequently reported on this topic and daily affects our way of using LRC. Please Mr Rikk Flohr: PhotographyCould you tell Adobe about this? It is cleary not a question of overwriting Preferences or uninstall and reinstall the sofware.

Could we get forward to a solution? I've been using LRC for decade without anykind of malfunction so I think that could beeasely fixed by Adobe !!!

Thank you all, have a great day.

I agree ! Do not reset your Preference. It just a waste of time or worse you’ll end up messing your LR.

This issue has been going on for month but Adobe apparently has not investigate.

Yet the issue seems clear : It only appears for users who set their Mac OS langage preferences to English but use an extended  foreign keyboard (like in my case French).

If I set my keyboard to English (qwerty) and restart the OS and application the problem disappear. Same thing if I set the OS to French, then no problem.

But I’m use to work in LR and PS in English and do not want to change.

At first I though it might be an Apple issue with Monterey but after the upgrade to 12.2.1 nothing changed.

I also suspected an issue with my keyboard which was not a branded Apple keyboard. So I got a new Apple keyboard. No change.

One thing indicate that it’s clearly an Lightroom issue and not an OS issue : The key 0 to 5 for rating all work perfectly.

I wish that Abode will look seriously to this issue because my workflow rely on colour labels.

I use a workaround (but not all very convenient) as I set the colors labels on my Wacom tablet keys.

Thank you all. Have a nice day.

I have the same problem now. New macbook Pro M1 max, Mac OS Monterey and newest Lightroom. I have got this issue too with my "Czech" keyboard in system settings. On my previous mac (OS Mojave) this settings was OK. I use external keyboard with numeric pad. I realized, that if I add us keyboard to my system settings and switch to it, Labelling is OK. It is annoying to switch between different keyboard layouts, but temporarily it helps.

Hello.

I need your knowledge to solve a problem under Mac...

I used to use windows and never had a problem like this.

I have a magic Keyboard without a numeric keypad... and I got a Staechi numpad as a gift ^^ I was happy to use numbers easily on lightroom... but......

- It already marks a comma instead of a period, and the "clear" key doesn't work.
- the keyboard shortcuts in Adobe and especially lightroom don't work properly at all. The 1 2 3 4 5 give notes. On the other hand the 6789 just say "delete label (color associated with the key).
- no support for key combinations such as Shift+digit, Cmd+digit...

Adobe doesn't understand where the problem comes from and made me contact Apple, which sends the ball back to Adobe for the following reasons:
- the Numpad Satechi works great under windows (even with key combinations shift, alt etc)
- works on mac only when I put the keyboard in English (but then, I have a QWERTY and not an AZERTY on the magic keyboard --> which is crazy on apple ... impossible to configure only the numpad

I tested a windows numpad under mac : exactly the same problem as with the Satechi...

No answer from Satechi.

Is it usual on mac ??? how to solve this problem ??

Some shortcuts get overridden in certain circumstances. Worth checking if any special tools or modes are active.

For example - there may be other special circumstances besides - while a brushed adjustment is active the number keys act to vary the the current brush settings. So 1 sets 10% 'opacity', 6 sets 60%, 0 sets 100%. On exiting this local adjustment tool, the number keys return to acting as they did otherwise.

Adobe can only fix what they can reproduce, and there is little info in the posts to date that would help Adobe figure out where the problem might be. Therefore, the following info would help:

Have you tried resetting LrC preferences?

Have you checked that the 6-9 keys haven't been assigned to some other application/function in Keyboard settings?

Have you checked that the various options in the Keyboard Settings section of Accessibility have been inadvertently enabled (e.g. Enable Slow Keys in Hardware)?

Are you using a wired or Bluetooth keyboard?

What language is the keyboard configured for?

Are you using Mac or Windows?

What OS version are you using?

I have the same problem. Working fine on Big Sur, upgraded this morning to Monterey and I have exactly the problem you describe. I have no shortcuts enabled in the system preferences, I am using the magic apple keyboard with bluetooth.

I also get this jumping forward 2 photos effect when I try "shift+6", the selected photo and its neighbour both get the red label.

The keyboard is configured in French and the OS in English.

Thanks for any help,

Nicolas

Can you retest after configuring the keyboard as English rather than French?

BTw, when I change my bluetooth Apple Magic keyboard with numeric keypad and ID key using Monterey and type 6,7, 8 and 9 on the forum or in an LrC text field I get §è!ç If I use Shift+6 to 9 the correct label is applied to one image only but then auto selects the next image.

Above suggests to me that the issue is probably Monterey rather than Lightroom Classic.

Yes you can add a qwerty keyboard in your preferences and choose that keyboard (of course not very convenient  for a normal usage). Then just restart LR.

Yes I agree it’s more likely an Apple issue rather then an Adobe issue.

Hello I am very perplexed .. since I made the shift to Monterey 12.0.1 when in LR 11,0,1 I either enter a rejection or I give a number of stars with shift pressed, this jumps 2 images instead of going to the next image and in addition it puts the marker on the two images…

It's not too much fun when I reject one photo the next one ie recited also  ... thanks for your advice

If I understand you correctly, you click a photo to reject it, and LR jumps to the next photo and rejects that one also?
