Lighroom Classic: Photos randomly losing their edits

Issue(s):
- Files randomly losing their edits in Lightroom Classic. Some pictures show up right with their previous editing either in Library or Develop modules until I select them and they instantly lose their edits and return  to their initial state (no-edit). Undo command wouldn't revert to their previous state.

This shouldn't happen as I have checked the "Automatically write changes into xmp" option in the Catalog settings from thge beginning.

Environment :
Lightroom Classic Version Number: V14.01 - Camera Raw 17.0
OS Version Number: Windows 11 23H2
Computer: Intel i7-12700KF - 64Go - Nvidia RTX-3090 24Go

Steps to reproduce: it appears randomly - I couldn't identify the kind of pictures that are affected or not.

Expected result: Not losing hours of work already done
Actual result: losing hours and money - losing confidence in Adobe products

I've been having this issue for the last few weeks and it's driving me nuts. Has there been any official remark on this?

@KentSpain85a possible solution is just above your post. If that doesn't work, please start a new thread and explain your problem in detail.

Yes, but that solution doesn't bring back the useful history edits in the history panel.

And even if the history steps are in the panel, it would be very time-consuming to click on the top step for every photo in order to get the final edit.

And you can't tell what a developed image looks like from its preview.

This has been an issue for several people, in various incarnations - see other posts.

I overlooked that you have this option checked.

Select an image in Library, then go to Metadata > Read metadata from file.

This might bring back the edits, but they will not be listed in the History panel.

I'm glad that worked for you, but you still need to fix the underlying problem with edits disappearing.

So what does the error message about the catalog say?

@jean louisc

Are the edits listed in the History panel?

If they are, what happens if you click on the topmost history step?

Please quote the exact error message that you are getting.

Or post a screenshot of the error message.

Do not attach the screenshot, use the Insert Photos button in the toolbar to embed it in your post.

@Per Berntsen  Good point !  Unfortunately, my Edit History got cleared 😞

@defaultlz82kie8kiqvI don't get any error msg. And as it happen randomly, I cannot post any Before/After status or screenshot

First try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html

If this doesn't help try to create a new catalog, import several pictures and check if it's happen again.

Alternatively, you can also restore the catalog from a backup you made before the issue occur.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI
