Lightroom 3 Upgrade to what and how cheaply

Having got involved in other activities I never updated Lightroom 3.  Now I want to catalog my digitized slides for my descendnts.  I also switched from PC to MAC.  Recently I discovered lightroom 3 could be loaded onto the MAC.

Should I carry on using Lightroom 3 which I assume is not supported or is there a way I can upgrade without paying a monthly or yearly fee?  There will probably be extended periods when I may not be able to use the program.  I have always paid for a program and later upgrades.

Hang in their. I am sure other members can provide alternate programs, perhaps even free, to substitute for an expensive occasionally used app.

In fact, some non Adobe apps might be better for archiving family heirlooms into media to share

Be aware, that while you were able to install v3 on your MAC, if you update the MACOS to Catalina, the app might not work at some point as Apple clamps down on supporting old programs (I cannot remember it v3 is 64bit or only 32bit, the 32bit is the issue) And should you have to reinstall, then you will not be able to do so as the installer is 32bit (Catalina forbids 32bit)

Adobe no longer supports perpetual (aka stand alone) products. They do not sell them, they no longer provide downloads, and they no longer provide upgrades.

They only provide subscription based products now for the photo community. Paid Monthly (but I think with a year commitment) or paid yearly.

Opps, I originally thought you were talking about Lightroom, as in not Lightroom Classic.

The mention of Lightroom 3 got me on a wrong tangent. I should read then reread before opening mouth.
