Lightroom 4 suddenly "damaged and can't be opened"

After successfully (legally) downloading and using Lightroom 4 for the past 2-3 years I've suddenly gotten the message "Adobe Lightroom 4 is damaged and can't be opened". The error box goes on to tell me that I should erase it and download a new copy, which now seems to be impossible because of Adobe's move to the Cloud system. I use a Mac with OS X 6.8 (Snow Leopard, I believe) and haven't made any adjustments to my OS in quite a long time. In fact, I have been away from that desktop for most of the past year, and have popped into town once every couple months to use that computer to backup my iPhone and do a couple photo things on Lightroom. I have tried recovering an older version of the program using Time Machine, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. I have also tried downloading the update for 4.4 (which I probably would have done anyway at the time, but can't tell for sure), but the .exe file just opens up as a strange textfile. Now I seem to be stuck, so any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks. BB

    Correct answer JP Hess

If you downloaded an exe file I suspect that you downloaded a Windows file. Here is the link to the download of Lightroom 4.4.1 for the Mac:

Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4.1

    Thanks Jim.

That did make a difference. The next problem I encountered is that it asked for a product key. Given that I installed LR 4 many moons ago, I don't even recall where I bought it from (?maybe Mac App Store, maybe a real store?). Is there anything else I can do to solve or bypass that step? If not, what will happen if I try moving my LR 4 catalogues over to my laptop, which runs LR 5? BB
