Hi everyone
(Yes, that is correct, I'm still using 6.14 as I can't justify a monthly outlay for Lightroom in my current financial circustances)
I'm currently trying to make my photo storage more redundant. I used to just store my photos on my Synology NAS but as that didn't provide any actual backup of my images when my laptop decided to die earlier this year I replaced it with a desktop machine (unexpected bills, yay...) with a big HDD to store the photos on and use the NAS properly as a backup.
As I also needed to have a good sort out of the images I'd got stored I'm gradually working through my catalog, deleting images and then moving them over to the local drive via Lightroom. This was working well enough until the last few days when Lightroom has started shutting down during the deletion process. Lightroom does delete the files from the NAS but then crashes before removing reference to the images from the catalog, as when I restart Lightroom and go to the folder the images were removed from, Lightroom still shows the previews for them and complains the images can't be found...
I've been able to work around this somewhat by right-clicking the folder the files were being deleted from in Lightroom and selecting Synchronise (although this again causes Lightroom to crash) but it's not ideal.
Last night also brought to light a new problem in that trying to open the People module also causes Lightroom to crash. That appears to happen regardless of whether the folder I have selected at the time is on the local HDD or on the NAS>
This morning I've tried uninstalling Lightroom completely and reinstalling again but this doesn't appear to have helped.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to resolve this?
(My system is self-built, Win 10 Pro version 2004 build 19041.685)
Try running the program in Windows 8 compatibility mode. I was experiencing a crash wehen removing photos and when accessing the People module. Seems to be working again now, fingers crossed.

The problem with 6.14 in people mode has been reported in this forum several times, and there does not appear to be a fix, and it may be that the Lightroom 6.14 license for the people detection algorithm has expired. Search for those threads.
As far as the problem moving photos, I have not seen that one reported, but please do search the forums.
Nevertheless, the longer you live with old and unsupported software on newer operating systems that it was never designed for, the more of these types of issues you will get. That's life in the world of computers, it affects all old software, not just Lightroom.

I am experiencing the same problem. Imediate crash of Lightroom (back to the desktop) when deleteing photos. A some what delayed crash when trying to sync folders. I am saving to an internal secondary drive. Disabling GPU & plug-ins has no effect. I also have reinstalled 6.14 & removed plugins added by PhotoLab & other apps to no avail. This is very frustrating.
I have also tried a different catalog with the same results so i dont think the catalog is the problem. My main catalog was tested by Lightroom upon the new install. I think this may be a Win10 update problem. If I cant sove it I will move on to PhotoLab4 and Affinity Photo. I want to own my software.

Try running the program in Windows 8 compatibility mode. I was experiencing a crash wehen removing photos and when accessing the People module. Seems to be working again now, fingers crossed.

did you find out where to access this?

That properties dialog is accessed using Windows File Explorer, you navigate to the Lightroom Classic executable file, the app, right click on that, select properties.

I can confirm that this worked for me, setting Windows 8 compatibility mode.
Also (seen on a different forum), running as Administrator also let me work without crashing, but that's not good practice.

Thanks garethb545554, have tried that myself and that appears to be working for deleting files and the People module not crashing when I go into it (although as the face recognition feature appears to have expired from what I've now read elsewhere, I'm not sure there's going to be any point going into the People module...)

Windows 8 compatability mode worked for too!
No problems deleting or syncing new photos to folder.
Thank you SO much!!

I have the same issue with Lightroom 6.14 crashing on "delete photo". I've tried re-installing Lightroom, removing all extensions and plug-ins, etc. without success. I'm running macOS Mojave 10.14.6 - the last version that supports 32-bit applications - so I doubt it's a Windows-only problem. I've double-checked for the correct file and folder permissions, so that doesn't seem to be the cause of the crash. And, I've verified that Lightroom 6.14 has the proper permissions to access any file or folder location on the drive where the photos, the Lightroom catalog, and the Lightroom application reside. This problem is occurring on two different machines, both running fresh installations of macOS Mojave and Lightroom 6.14. Any ideas towards a solution would be greatly appreciated.

My lightroom 6.14 crashes as I delete or remove 2 specific photos. My gut feeling is that this is simply a bug. I had an active HDR creation in progres and while I was waiting, I decided to delete a photo. LR crashed. After that there are two photos that I cannot delete or simply remove from the catalog (i.e. without touching the picture on disk). If I export the lightroom folder as a catalog and try to delete or remove the two files from this catalog the error persists, which tells me the error is persisted in SQLite (assuming LR does not persist state anywhere else). Deleting or removing other pictures works fine even after this crash. This error occured today 27th of december 2020 at 8PM CET.
Note: I have experianced problems before when being active during panorama or HDR creation. Not very common but it has happened. The issues have not persisted though. Not to say that this problem was created by the HDR-delete combo. The problem might have occurred long before. If I don't touch these photos it works fine.
I do not utilise the map or facial recognition features that from the link in the previous response clearly has stopped working due to licensing. I have a hard time accepting that deletion should be licensed and stop working as a result. In addition, if it was licensing I would assume all deletions to stop working.
I'm working on Windows 10 and have done so for years. My machine is dedicated to photography so I don't install anything that is not related to photography.
I'm putting my money on this being a bug that is persisted in SQLite, i.e. the SQLite structures are broken. (Note: I always take a backup as I close and as I do I perform an integrity check and optimize - so this integrity check does not spot the problem if I'm right). Is there a way to get Adobe to look at a small exported catalog that has this problem?

Does the above suggestion for Win8 compatibility mode help?
Given that LR 6.14 is four major versions old, there will never be any fixes for it. However, if you post your info to the "feedback" forum, any problems and fixes might be addressed in version 10.2 or higher.

Thank you for responding.
I understand that the program version is old. I have a hard time seeing that Windows 8 compatibility mode would fix anything that only applies to deleting 2 specific photos. For the past days I have deleted more than 1000 pictures from recent photoshoots. As I describe above I got this problem deleting whilst creating HDRs. I can still delete other photos.
I can see two potential reasons for this behavior; 1) Something has gone wrong and persisted itself in the catalog (SQLite). 2) Some issue with the disk. I have however checked the disk and found no error.
I will dig deeper today but since a catalog export of one LR folder containing the problematic photos persists the problem EVEN if I only choose to remove the photo from the catalog it smells like the first option.
What do you mean by problems might have been addressed in version 10.2 or higher? Do you mean that by posting to the feedback forum, I would be able to get a receipt on that it is a known bug that has been fixed, but I would not be able to take advantage of the fix since my program is to old?

While you can post problems with 6.14 in the feedback forum, you will not hear back from Adobe on this matter, because Lightroom 6.14 is unsupported. It will not ever be fixed, Adobe won't even bother to acknowledge your post or investigate to confirm that you have found an actual bug — that's what "unsupported" means. In other words, you are wasting your time posting your 6.14 bug.

If anyone is interested I know what this is all about. It is actually the licensing on face recognition. I normally don't use neither this nor the map functionality. Map because I don't have GPS coordinates built in and face since I found it way to slow (and my computer is fast), in addition I had already started tagging people manually before this feature and it does not really take that much time.
Anyhow, the photos from this summer that I was tidying up carried face recognition regions. I can now recall having tried it again only to come to the same conclusion. Not worth it. On my backup from before having tried this I can still delete, but the backup after crashes on delete. Looking in windows event log on program error it does indicate the face recognistion dll.
If I remove the region LR crashes but as I relaunch the region is gone. I can now delete the foto without crashing. I don't have a lot of such regions in my fairly big catalog but it is still quite a few since it is big and I did evaluate as I upgraded to LR6. The question then becomes:
Is there any way to communicate with Adobe about this? It should be fairly simple if you know the db schema to create a small utility to clean this out.

Check this thread for a couple workarounds to allow you to delete the face locations.

Adobe isn't going to do this. Lightroom 6 is completely unsupported, Adobe will not spend a single minute of effort on Lightroom 6.

When you go to the official feedback site, and look at the discusssion on this. Adobe appears to have an official response that basicly says go pound sand.
