P: AI denoise not working on Mavic 4 pro files

New Here ,
Sep 25, 2025 Sep 25, 2025

Hey everyone,

I just got a drone - a mavic 4 pro - and some of the files are a little noisy, so I tried to clean them up just like I do with all my Z7 pictures.

Unfortunately it looks like those files are not supported yet (maybe because the drone is rather new ?). When applying denoise, the ISO noise becomes considerably worse instead of disappearing. And the further right you move the slider (more denoise amount), the worse it gets as well.

Here are picture examples (this is on 100mpx main camera 28mm files, not 25mpx ones - so maybe the quad bayer has some impact here ?) :

Is this a known bug ? Is it gonna be fixed anytime soon - and did anyone else encounter it ?

Best,

Greg

To add to my original post : the AI denoise works perfectly fine on 25mpx images (just tested it out). It only bugs out on the 100mpx ones. So looks like there is indeed something not working out with those ones in particular.

Try using Lightroom Classic 14.5.1, the denoise routines are different.

If that doesn't help, post one of these images to Dropbox or similar and let us here download it and try it.

I downloaded a few sample 100 MP DJI Mavic 4 Pro DNGs into LR 14.5.1, and Denoise worked well:

If updating to LR 14.5.1 doesn't help, then definitely share a sample problem DNG, as @dj_paige  recommended.

Hey,

I updated to that version and it definitely doesn't change anything on my end. Exact same problem.

Here is one of my files where it fails for example : https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/mo0rx7f2f5c3kxw4r9lpp/DJI_20250920083523_0249_D.DNG?rlkey=eqqjjbrff25...

Best,

Greg

I apply AI Denoise in LrC 14.5.1, but I agree with you that there seems to be more noise (or perhaps more artifacts) after the AI Denoise operation.

Have you tried the older (non-AI) denoise on these photos? IMHO that works reasonably well.

I tried that as well, and it is most likely what I will end up doing for now tbh.

It still is an issue that needs fixing though, and it is rather frustrating as the 25Mpx files can be denoised just fine. Had I known before, I wouldn't be sitting on a lot of 100mpx noisy images.

Also, doesn't explain why @johnrellis was able to clean a file on his end ?

I updated all my drivers + LRc, checked if the RAWs are indeed still in mosaic and not linear DNGs...

Dxo's AI noise reduction actually seems to somewhat work on them, though it takes much longer (on top of requiring another paid software).

Best,

Greg

I think the original photo used by @johnrellis does not have the noise or artifacts that your photo does. I don't know why.

I see the same problem with your sample photo.

I wonder if this is related to another bug acknowledged by Adobe, where Denoise doesn't work on DNGs from the Ricoh GR-III X:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/camera-raw-bugs/p-denoise-on-dng-from-ricoh-gr-iii-x-is-missing-lumin...

In that instance, Adobe says that Ricoh needs to make some changes to DNGs, implying that the DNGs were not conforming with the DNG spec.  A partial workaround in that case, converting the camera DNG to lossy compressed DNGs via the menu command Library > Convert Photo To DNG, doesn't have any effect on your sample photo.  (While one person in that thread claimed that the workaround lost detail, they didn't back up the claim with an example.)

@Rikk Flohr: Photography, please consider moving this to Camera Raw bugs. Denoise isn't working on high-ISO DNGs from the DJI Mavic 4 Pro Hasselblad camera.  Perhaps it has a similar cause as this acknowledged bug with the Ricoh GR-III X:

@johnrellis  The Camera Raw team is reviewing this. For now, it will remain in discussions.
