Lightroom 'cannot save changes to this location' error after Windows 11 laptop sleeps/hibernates

This might be a Windows 11 issue and it might be Lightroom Classic - has anyone else seen similar??

For working on my laptop, I keep my LR Classic catalog on an external USB-C SanDisk Extreme Pro drive, which I then sync (along with other work) to my PC when I'm home. This has been working perfectly for several months, but just recently (last week) I have started to have the following issue.

If I try to open the catalog after the laptop has been in sleep or hibernate, without LR running, I encounter the following error:

Lightroom cannot open the catalog named "####" located on volume "CURRENT PROJECTS" because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location.

Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes.

Unplugging / re-inserting the drive cable seems to make no difference, and as far as I can tell, the read only / security parameters of the drive and files are unchanged.

If I restart the laptop, or if it has just been turned on, then LR reads the catalog absolutely fine. Also, if the computer sleeps with LR open, then there are no issues after waking.

I note that "CURRENT PROJECTS" is actually a folder on the external drive, rather than the name of the drive or volume, which is odd..?

Sounds like Windows is treating the SSD as removable media.

perhaps see:

In my case, the problem went away a few weeks later after a Windows update..

Following - I'm having the same sort of issue...  I travel with a limited laptop and external drive, which has worked very well for me. I import photos to a "TRAVEL" catalog on an external drive, organize them and keyword them nightly while the trip is fresh in my mind, and delete the obvious files I wouldn't work with. When I return home it's a simple matter of plugging the external drive into my desktop, importing the new folders, and getting to work editing. With all that said - I recently bought a Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD to use in place of the external drive I lug around. It's SMALL, and LIGHT. And it's advertised to be rugged, so it's ideal for travel where it might be rough handled. I copied my travel catalog and photos folders from my external drive to the new Sandisk drive, plugged the Sandisk drive into my laptop and... I can't open the TRAVEL catalog. I get an error message from Lightroom stating that the catalog cannot be opened because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location. The message further states that catalogs cannot be stored on network volumes (understandable), removable storage or read-only volumes. I've used the extent of my computer skills to ensure that the drive is not locked (I removed the locking software that shipped with the drive), and that the attributes of every folder and file on the drive are not read only. Has anyone had any luck using an external SSD to store and use a catalog file? Or perhaps a work-around to the error?
