Lightroom causing GPU to run at 100% constantly

Help. For some reason LR now runs really slow and laggy. My CPU runs at or near 100% constantly. I have an i7 and Geforce RTX Studio 2060 Max-Q. It use to run lighting fast. After some updates I have issue. I have tried changing a bunch of setting with no bump in performance. Does anyone have some insight?

  • Please share a screnshot of your LrC /preferences/Performance/

And from LrC /Help/System Info/ please copy the Library path and post in a reply

for example, this bit:

Looking to see that the Library path DOES NOT POINT to a cloud share, a NAS share, or even a OneDrive auto sync.

Oh, and a general inquiry, whatever hard drive that catalog is in. How large is that drive, how much free space is in that drive (typically a question about % free, looking for at least 25%)

Please clarify: your title says GPU, your message says CPU, which is it?

Slow and laggy at what tasks? Please be specific. What are you doing in LrC (again please be specific) when this CPU or GPU runs at 100%

Which steps do you have done?

Try first resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html

Check if your system is up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. Please make also sure that you have installed the Studio version and not the Game Ready version of your NVidia driver.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

If this happened right after one of the recent updates the culprit is likely a problem with the preview database. There are some folks who report enabling "Enable HDR in Library" (Preferences->Performance) solves it. Others need to recreate standard previews.
