Lightroom Classic 11 and 12 Intersect Mask with Luminance Range Issues

I was using Lightroom Classic 10.?, with Windows 10 Home, and recently upgraded to LR Classic 12.3.  Now, when I create a mask using a Linear Gradient and itersect it with Luminance Range I get these weired artifacts (not sure what to call them - the edges of everything in the scene are all highlighted - see attached image) after tweaking the setting just a little.  I have never seen this before in LR 10 and earlier, even when I pushed all of the levels as far as they would go.  I tried several different versions of Lightroom 11 and 12 and get this issue with all of them.  I would appreciate any help anyone could provide.

see this video (pertanate part starts at 23:39)

Your screen capture shows that you have not touched the fade range (12:44 in video) that might help.

Thanks for the quick response.  I checked out the video and it looks like the fade range is only an option when using a brush, which I don't believe I need to use during this process (unless I'm missing something).  I used a linear gradient, intersected it with a luminance range, adjusted the luminance range to where it only selected the underexposde buildings, etc., in the foreground.  At this point everything is still working as it should, but I get the wonky result after I adjust the sliders.

No, the fade range is not only an option when using a brush. Luminance range has that option too. The sliders underneath the range do this, but you pushed the right slider all the way against the full range. I haven't watched that video, but knowing Julieanne Kost I am sure she will show this in the video. See also https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/masking.html
