Lightroom Classic 7.2 Issues?

Community Beginner ,
Feb 15, 2018 Feb 15, 2018

Is anyone else having performance issues after installing version 7.2?  Since I've updated on my Mac, I'm seeing significant slow-downs, functions not working (requiring relaunch), etc.  Any suggestions?

If anyone is still having problems with this issue I found this solution in Adobe help. It works fine, but it would be helpful if they informed people when updating that this might be an issue.

That’s at the core of the issue that Adobe doesn’t seem to understand: trust. For the life of me I don’t get how they can be so blind that they can’t (or won’t) see the effect of their shoddy work.

It seems clear their their leaders are driving the dev teams to create new trinkets for PS & LR without doing any quality control testing. New functions are useless if the core functions are broken.

I rolled back to 7.1 and tethered capture is back to decent performance.

I’m with you & your company tonyf: I’m looking seriously at alternatives. I can do easily do without LR, but I’ve been a PS user since version 4 And I know the keyboard commands and how to use the tool well enough to do so in my sleep.

I wonder if Adobe will get their act together before I find a replacement. My trust in them is so destroyed that once I leave, it will be permanent, even if they do return to basic quality control.

Thanks, but this solution does not work for large catalogs.  Mine is about 200K images, works well with 7.1 but does not with 7.2 despite all measures suggested.

Same here.  I got around 150k images in my catalog and the upgrade to 7.2 was a disaster. Even with a freshly build computer (i7 8600k, 64Go Ram, GTX1080, and PCIE SSD)

I downgraded to 7.1 for the moment, i will wait for the next update.

I'm having major issues with the upgrade, open LR  7.2  and takes forever or doesn't upload or show images in folders.  I have over 200k images in this catalogue.  With my smaller catalogues, works fine. When I called Adobe, they said there was a bug with this upgrade and they were working on it?  Also stated that I shouldn't have have any catalogues with images greater than 75K which may explain why my smaller catalogues are working fine.

Don't know if others are having the issues that I have with 7.2. I'm using a MacBook Pro when on the road to download and import images. With 7.2 if I don't have an internet connection the import starts but soon hangs the entire laptop. Meaning that moving the cursor stops or is very slow and erratic. Lightroom stops functioning as well as locks the entire machine. I do not have this problem with 7.1 as I have reverted and updated testing many times. If there is a good internet connection, I don't have this problem. I have made sure that any syncing, GPS lookups, etc are off and disabled.

So until Adobe gets their act together and releases stable versions, I will stay on 7.1 as well as look for alternatives.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this with the config.lua change. I verified that

DigestManager.dontCalculateDigest = true

was set properly and all sync disabled. Unfortunately this had no change or effect to my problem. It still hung my laptop requiring a power cycle.

The update doesn't work for me either. Windows 7 with updated graphics card. Had to rollback to previous version. The Develop module freezes up. I can make changes and they show in the library but not the develop module. So weird. I can't even get support from Adobe. They just keep giving me links to articles that have nothing to do with my issue. Very irritating.

Turning off syncing is *not* the correct answer for me (I've never had it turned on, and it's not turned on now). Handling images and editing Metadata in the Library module is appalling. It can sometimes take up to a minute to load the correct picture's metadata so it can be edited. Trying to select and label images and update metadata is now almost impossible. (Lightroom 7.2 on Windows 10). The earlier versions worked fine.

Like many others I went back to previous versions but so far after risking the update to 7.3 (April 2018) version things seem better.  Have just invested in more RAM so fingers crossed.
