Lightroom Classic & Smugmug: Photos immediately flagged as modified and need to be republished

Hello, I've been experiencing this issue for years with  LR-Classic, always the latest version, OS/x latest.

As soon as I upload a batch of photos via the Smugmug plugin, half a dozen or 20 photos (it's random) immediately get flagged as "modified - needs to be republished". No changes have been made to the files. I click "publish" and walk away from the computer. When i come back, the upload is done, and a bunch of photos have been flagged as modified, but no one has touched the computer.  Is there a fix for this?  Thanks so much.

There is no reliable workaround.  You can select all the photos in a published collection, right click them, and do Mark Up-To-Date.  You can also try selecting all the photos in the collection and doing Library > Previews > Build 1:1 Previews to force the to re-render.  That sometimes makes the problem go away permanently (for the selected photos) but often not.

As you've observed, these issues have been present since at least 2016, and Adobe has not made it a priority to fix them. There isn't a simple recipe that would let Adobe quickly reproduce the problem, and they've shown no interest in taking some of our catalogs to debug.

For all practical purposes, Adobe has stopped supporting these publish services.
