Lightroom Classic and Creative Cloud

I have a subscription to creative cloud, which is how I use Lightroom Classic and all other editing apps. All of my catalogs sync to creative cloud and I run out of storage really fast. How do I prevent the files from saving to creative cloud and only saving to my desktop? I have a Mac.

    Thank you for responding and helping me figure things out. With all do respect, it almost seems as if you're upset that I simply don't know what I'm talking about. Which is- because I DON'T. I'm not always tech savvy and I certainly don't KNOW the way things work. That's why I came to a forum. For someone to explain things. But I didn't expect someone to explain it me as if I'm stupid for asking. This will be the last time. Google is just as easy. I'm a photographer. I take pictures and know how to use my editing software. I don't completely understand syncing, lightroom syncing, etc. 


    I have never meant to be condescending in my replies, so apologize if you gained that impression.

    As another community user of the Adobe apps, your system details are not available to me, and only answers (and screen-clips) that clarify your situation will help others in the forum find a solution for you.

    Even an answer to the question from @Bill Sprague would be helpful- "Can you provide a step by step description of how your are saving files to the Creative Cloud?"

    You are welcome to search Google- just as I do.

    @crystalw1738  Reading your post suggests to me you might be syncing to a Creative Cloud Folder in your Mac system.

    If that is the case then be aware that the CC 'Folder' will not be available after 1st Feb 2024

    !! Discontinuation of Creative Cloud Synced files

    "Lightroom" image syncing however is not affected by this change. LrC will continue to sync proxy files up to the Cloud from LrC Collections- and Lr will still be able to sync files down to LrC.  Catalogs are not affected but should be backed up to a separate physical hard drive (or another alternative Cloud service- Not the Adobe Creative Cloud 'folder')

      Lightroom Classic saves your editing work in a catalog file on your computer.  The other Lightroom, not Classic, uses cloud storage and does not save to a catalog file.

       

      Can you provide a step by step description of how your are saving files to the Creative Cloud?  Can you describe how your catalog syncs to the Creative Cloud.

      I feel somewhat ignorant trying to answer this question, becasue I really don't know. I've never spent much time deciding where things save, I just click "save" or nothing at all. It backs up automatically upon closing the application. In an attempt to answer though, I import images into Lightroom classic from my camera. I create a new catalog for each client. Last week I kept getting notifications from creative cloud that I was out of storage. I upgraded and deleted old collections (previously I was making collections inside one catalog) and I'm still out of storage. For an easy fix, I paused syncing on creative cloud until I figured this out. I don't need creative cloud storage. I use three other mechanisms for storage (iCloud, CloudSpot, and an external hard drive). I do know that all the Lightroom and creative cloud folders are on my desktop in my iCloud files. I've gone through the preferences in Lightroom to attempt to disable or redirect the automatic saving to creative cloud but nothing seems to work.

      You last post contains many confusing statements!

      The Location for this LrC CATALOG backup is set in the Backup dialog- Read it to see where you are backing up the Catalog! And it should be another physically separate local hard-drive that YOU [Choose]!

      It is NOT in Preferences. The location is chosen IN THE BACKUP DIALOG.

      Change it so it is NOT the {Creative Cloud} folder!

      That is very problematic for Cloud syncing, because you can only ever 'Sync' one catalog to the Lightroom Ecosystem at a time. And each time you change the sync to another catalog (by an answer in a warning dialog) the sync has to re-connect with all the Lightroom ecosystem Cloud files.

      If you have been backing up catalogs the the {Creative Cloud} FOLDER in your system, then, yes, these backups will use up your 20GB Cloud allocation.  (Both Lightroom Ecosystem -for images, and Creative Cloud folders -for files of any kind,  use the Cloud allocation.)

      Collections in LrC that are synced to the Lightroom ecosystem do not use any of your Cloud allocated space. BUT 'saving' anything (Catalog Backups, files, etc) to the {Creative Cloud} FOLDER will use space!

      Then simply turn off ( [Pause] ) the [Sync] in the Cloud icon of every LrC Catalog you use!

      ??? Two entirely different and separate "Cloud" systems! One by Adobe, the other Apple.

      The {Creative Cloud} folder will cease 1st Feb 2024- it will not be available after then!
