Question

Lightroom Classic CC weird behaviour when google chrome is running at the same time

Hi,

I am using lightroom under Windows for more than 8 years now and now I am running Lightroom Classic CC release 8.1 under Windows 10

I have a catalog of  more than 100.000 photos with a mix of jpegs and RAWs, and I do a lot of metadata editing, picture editing and recently book editing

I have always observed lightroom slowdowns, and finally freezing when I do a lot of metadata editing, I have already posted here less than one year ago questions with error messages from Windows event logs when lightroom freezes but I can't find them any more

what I have observed recently is that lightroom instabilities occur when google chrome is running at the same time, so I am obliged to stop google chrome every time I run Lightroom which is anoying, but when instabilities occur, I do not have error messages in the Windows event log

when I run Google Chrome, I always have tabs opened with gmail, google calendar, google contacts, google keep, google drive, and google speadsheet

does any one have noticed this kind of behaviour ?

thanks for your replies

Jean-François

For quite a while, perhaps since December 2019, Lightroom Classic has been freezing during startup. The screen text and images eventually grey out, and I get a message asking if I want to either wait or exit. If I open my Chrome browser, it fixes the problem and everthing is normal until the next time I start Lightroom.

Windows 10 desktop, 32 GB Ram, SSD boot disk, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 graphics

Any hints on fixing this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark F.

My suspicions are that it probably has nothing to do with Chrome. I would suggest that you check to see if there is an updated driver for your graphics card. If there is then I would suggest installing that updated driver. If that doesn't solve the problem then try disabling GPU acceleration in Lightroom and see if that has any effect.

Are you using the google drive as a cloud storage service for your images?

not familiar with the product, does it involve a plug-in?

is your google chrome software up to date? Is any plug-in up to dated? Any error messages in plug-in manager?
