Question

Lightroom Classic crashed and won't start again (MacOS 13.2, Lightroom Classic 12.2)

While working with Lightroom Classic (85k images in the catalog) the program crashed and would not start again. Tried

  • logging off and on Adobe Cloud
  • renaming SLCache and SLStore files (as recommended in the Adobe help)
  • deinstalling and re-installing LR Classic 12.2 via Adobe Cloud

Several restarts, of course. No change. LR does not start!

After several de-installations and complete re-installation LR opens again. I had to re-import the entire catalog of course but I lost all the settings

Did you try opening the existing catalog file?

This is a different error altogether. I had that years ago. I do not have a catalogue issue... the application as such does not open, so I cannot even make it to the point described in your thread

Try logging into another Mac user account (you should make a new one); still crashing?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting*), still crashing?
You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still crashing?

* How to start your M1/M2 Mac in Safe Mode
On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
Press and hold the power button until the startup disks and Options appear.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

Hey @vilfredo. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Where do you keep your Lightroom Classic catalog? On the internal or external drive?

Try these steps to get Lightroom to launch:

  • Reset Lightroom Classic following the second (manual) method from this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html
  • Press the OPT  when launching Lightroom Classic & choose the option to create a new catalog and create a new one on the internal drive.

  • If the above step does not launch Lightroom Classic, go to the following location to launch Photoshop via the terminal.
In Finder > Application Folder > Lightroom Classic > Right-click on Lightroom.app > Show Package Contents > Contents > macOS > Lightroom - double click to open.

Let us know how it goes. Thanks!
Sameer K

Another easy troubleshoothing step: Try deleting the file "metrics.json", following the precise steps here:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-lrc-12-2-1-fails-to-start-launch-or-is-extremely-slow-launching/idc-p/13695275/page/6#M41952

The process can be a little persnickety, so follow the steps exactly.

Lots of people have been tripping over this recently.
