Question

Lightroom classic crashes at launch

Hi,

Whenever I open Lightroom classic it crashes after about a minute of runtime. I have tried to disable GPU at startup, reinstalled the app, opening and creating other catalouges, updtaing my graphics card, but nothing seems to help.

What is strange is that this problem only happens sometimes. But when it happens it doesn`t help to restart the computer, I would have to wait a day or two before trying again.

I`m running a windows 10 computer and GeForce GTX 960M.

Above remarks are about heat.

In addition, your laptop and the surrounding environment

Is anything blocking the fans?

Are the fans clean of dust bunny's

Is the laptop on a soft surface (bad) or hard surface?

Does the laptop need additional cooling. like a tray with fans to push air towards it.

Remember, Lightroom Classic can use far more resources than Photoshop, it can even eat up more resources than high end virtual world games. CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM. power.

Something else, if enabled, to undo

Also, a tip for your OS, tip 8 in the link below, increases power consumption, this one for the CPU. This tip if implemented, also might not be appropriate on a laptop, may also ramp up power consumption to a point if overheating.

As you are running a NVIDIA GPU you may have accomplished the tip in the link below. But the tip causes an increase on power consumption and as such may be something to not accomplish on a laptop, could cause overheating. Are your fans going crazy fast?

Also, is this a desktop, or a laptop?

Nothing stands out in your sys info as an issue.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LRC) reports it. In LRC click on Help, click on System Info, click on Copy. Paste that into a reply. Include all info from first line down to and including plug-in info. Info after plug-in info just takes up space and is gobbledegook to us non programers.

I have a similar problem.  Lightroom Classic on Windows 10 crashes every time I try to use it.

Launch the program and with no input or interaction, the program crashes within about 2 minutes.  I have verified Windows, graphics drivers and Lightroom are all up to date.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom.  I have resest preferences.  I have multiple catalogs and the problem occurs with every catalog.  I have taken the drive with  the catalog and images to another system and the program runs fine.  I have created a new catalog and it still fails. I have disabled virus protection.

Sometimes, but not every time when I launch with a new blank catalog, Lightroom opens ( in the Library Module ) it opens the application and prompts "import images' but then briefly flashes the opening Lightroom banner ( with the whale) as if it is trying to open another instance of the program.

I have been trying to work with Adobe support but after 10 days of effort with many reps I am still dead in the water so I am reaching out to the community.

Please post your problem seperatly, post your own post. Problems even if they look identical, tend to diverge. Keep it simple.

When you post your issue, include the system information as Lightroom reports it.

It sounds like there is a  conflict somewhere. Do  you have a virus or backup software running?  If  yes, try disabling or turning it off to see if that  changes Lr behavior. Do  you have other apps like Photoshop that are working without incident?

Thanks for the answer!

All of the other Adobe programs runs just fine. It is just with Lightroom i get the error.

Disabling my virus software doesn`t seem to help either.

The program have been running fine for the last week, hence I haven`t checked this thread, but it started to crash again today.
