Hi Brian,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to help you figure this out if you can clarify a few things.

Where is the Lightroom Classic's catalog stored? On the internal drive or any of the external drives?

Crash logs refer to preview generation/creation. We can try to fix the previews, which could also be due to broken or damaged tables in the catalog database.

You can create a new test catalog and merge the existing one with the new one to avoid broken or damaged databases. Copy the primary catalog or the catalog in question and place it on your computer's desktop/internal drive.

  • When launching Lightroom Classic, press the Alt (Win) or OPT (macOS).
  • Choose the option to create a new catalog and create a new one on the internal drive.

  • In the new catalog, head to File > Import from Another Catalog, as shown below.

Proceed with merging the corrupted catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog.

For more help via video-based steps, check here. See Merging individual catalogs into a master catalog

You are currently using macOS 11.6.1. You can check for updates and complete any pending updates. We hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks!

Hi Sameer,

Thank you for the reply.

I was working on an important edit therefore I took more drastic action prior to receiving your post.

Basically I un-installed LR Classic v11.1 and then installed version 10 (just in case V11 was the problem) and created a new catalog that enabled me to import the images that I was working on.

I can re-import my archive later on this week. I suppose the question now is was the recent upgrade to 11.1 responsible for corrupting my catalog? Will it now be safe to upgrade to the latest LR release once again?

As for my system I am running OS Big Sur 11.6.1 from an external SSD drive and my LR photo archive and catalog is situated the iMacs internal HDD. The reason for running the OS from the SSD is because the fusion drive has problems

operating with Big Sur.

Thanks

Brian
