Question

Lightroom Classic failing Windows 11

Been running Adobe since early 90's 2 days ago in the middle of doing some work light room suddenly shut down. Since then it is not opening. The only .json is LocalPrefs (thanks for the note on hidden files but no joy). and it keeps trying to down load and repair from the cloud and fails locking up. Tried the fixes suggested no resolution as yet. Windows 11 is updated the catalogue is cloud based but copied to computer and still fails. I was going to try reinstalling and doesnt sound like that is too successful. Contacted Adobe and got the run around then cut. Not impressed. Brian K

@kiwiak , Lightroom Classic is designed to work with the Lightroom Catalog, ending with .lrcat (LRCAT) extension, on a drive physically connected to your computer e.g internal or external. Using the likes of Dropbox and OneDrive is possible but risky.

Have a look at the article at the link below and see if the info provided can help you sorting out your problem.

One other thought, when LrC has opened a Catalog file it creates a temp file with the catalog name and ending with an extension .lock (LOCK) which gets automatically deleted when Lightroom is shut down. If Lightroom shuts down unexpectedly the lock file may remain in place and it will prevents the Catalog file from running. You can manually delete the lock file when Lightroom is not running.

Regards, Denis: iMac 27” mid-2015, macOS 11.7.10 Big Sur; 2TB SSD, 24 GB Ram, GPU 2 GB; LrC 12.5,; Lr 6.5, PS 24.7,; ACR 15.5,; (also Laptop Win 11, ver 24H2, LrC 15.0.1, PS 27.0; ) Camera Oly OM-D E-M1.

I was having the same problem over the past week or so. I tried all of the "fixes" that I could find. I even reinstalled Windows to no avail. After reading the article about DropBox and OneDrive I took a look at OneDrive, found the .LRCAT file, downloaded it to my PC and moved it to:  C:\Users\(your user name here)\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom   and it WORKED!! Lightroom Classic just opened!!

Lightroom Classic: What version NUMBER? Is there an error message? If so can you quote the exact complete word-for-word error message, verbatim?

the catalogue is cloud based but copied to computer and still fails.

What does this mean? Please be specific and detailed.

My present version of Light room is Modified 04 18 2023 8.15am

The following actions occur when I try to open LR:

Lightroom Catalogue “Lightroom Catalogue-v12” is corrupt and cannot be used until it is repaired.

The repair process may take several minutes

Automatic file downloads

Adobe lightroom classic is downloading from OneDrive

Completed 64.KB

Goes to Black screen with the text Lightroom – Opening Catalogue: Lightroom Catalogue-v12.Ircst  ” and nothing else happens

Note this has been running on this machine for about a year, and another previously. I did have a major crash in October 22 but it was still working since then
