Question

Lightroom Classic freezes my laptop

Hello everyone,

I would'nt make this post if I had find a solution for my problem.

I have tried lot of suggestions found in many topics here with no results.

My problem is - my laptop gets super slow when I open Lightroom app. Actually it gets SUPER slow. If I export something, I can't barely do anything else.

It happened already at start when I switched from my MacBook Pro (year 2011) to my new Asus ZenBook Pro Duo (max performace) laptop. I took my catalog with around 23k pictures and presets with me.

Now, since I have updated to win11, it's even worse.

Fun fact that any other Adobe app works without problems, only lightroom stops my pc.

I have added my laptop specs and 2 videos with problem.

While there is simple open and picture post processing you can see that computers hardware is in normal state, but Lightroom application is very laggy/slow.
But on export process CPU goes at it max.

What could be the problem or the solution? I bought this laptop, so I can work fast and efficient from any place in the world. Any advice will be appreciated.

FYI

My laptop (Asus ZenBook Pro duo) is developed together with adobe to provide maximal performace and efficiency.

Second screen (screen pad plus) has built in features for specific adobe apps to make workflow easier and faster...

For this reason I am little confused, how it can be that exactly Adobe product have performace issues....

I have never seen either of these things mentioned before. I am skeptical. Can you provide a reference?

Performance issues always boil down to what tasks are being asked of the computer and the hardware and software. If there is a mismatch (for example, hardware doesn't have enough resources or speed), then you have performance issues.

This is expected if you are exporting a lot of images/videos, and having very large images (in megapixels, not megabyte) or large video files makes it worse. If you have a GPU that qualifies, you can use that to help with exporting, by setting the proper options in Preferences->Performance->Use Graphics Processor.

In video I was exporting 50 images, with small adjustments (simple dslr 26mpix camera).

GPU doesn't help here.

The biggest problem is that my laptop isn't usable since I open Lightroom. Export just shows it the best.

I have also contacted Asus support, they claim that it is app problem, because on opened lightroom CPU is at normal state, but app is still laggy and slow.

Yes, I have tried exporting with GPU on also.

Sometimes people write words that mean something to them and mean different things to the readers. When you say GPU On, do you specifically mean the option for Lightroom Classic to use GPU during export?

Please upload a copy of your 'System Info'. You can access same from the Help  >  System Info menu item.

I have added 3 pictures in my first post with system info about my computers hardware.

The screenshots you've provided don't include the information that often helps folk here diagnose the issue. The 'System Info' I'm requesting is as shown in below screenshot and can be obtained from the Help > System Info menu item.

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html#troubleshooting

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

Especially check also "Solution 4: GPU and graphics driver troubleshooting steps" in the second linked document above and there point 4 and 6.

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

What happened if you try to create a new catalog with some pictures?

The video without export is made with new catalog with only 50 pictures in it. It's super laggy.

New catalog doesn't solve anything (I guess new catalog comes with default preferences, so reseting preferences also won't help).

Turning off GPU also doesn't change anything. Have tried this many times.

Just tried to disable basic graphics card, also nothing changed.

My computer gets supper slow at the moment I double click Lighroom app.

Maybe delete everything and reinstall...
