Lightroom Classic: GPU acceleration enabled slow/lag in Develop when zoomed at 100%

Lightroom Classic 10.3 and 10.4, panning lags at 100%, any idea how to fix it or what seems to be the issue?

I have to mention I have Windows 10 Pro with all the latest updates installed, latest Nvidia drivers and Adobe Lightroom updated, not sure what I can do to fix it.

Only in Develop mode i have the issue with the lag when zooming to 100%, in Library mode is working just fine.

I have found out that GSYNC really is a technology that is ahead of Adobes imagination. If this is still a problem for you, try to disable GSYNC. No, not just enable it for Fullscreen only, disable it in NVidia Control Panel. It solves all the lag issues I have with Lightroom. My rig is comparable to yours except I have an RTX2070S.
Try it.

Thanks for into! The new update to LR 11 has fix the lag but I'll definitely look into disabling GSYNC if it's on.

I am also experiencing this issue. I also chatted with adobe support about the problem, and he said that it could be related to my monitor as it’s been shown to experience flickering issues in some situations. I have not had any flickering issues until this point. However, it’s not just the slowness for me I am also experiencing flicking in some of the menus including file, edit, develop, etc. I also experience slowdowns in all areas of the program! Not just when developing, even exiting the program takes absolutely forever.

I really don't think this comes down to my monitor as everything was working fine a couple days ago. Suddenly upon launching lightroom classic I get slowness and flickering in menus. I turned off GPU acceleration in the preferences menu and everything works fine! No flickering and no slowdowns. Can anyone help me find a fix? I am worried that not having GPU acceleration will reduce my performance within the program.

I just built my PC with some pretty beefy components, so I really don't think this comes down to a hardware issue. I have also tried using the latest Nvidia Game Ready driver, and the latest Studio Driver. I also updated my main monitors firmware to the latest edition.

I am worried that not having GPU acceleration will reduce my performance within the program.

Typically, GPU acceleration is only needed if you have a 4K or larger monitor, which you do not have. If you are not having such a performance issue, then what is the issue?

I run my monitors at 1440p, I wasn’t sure what the impact would be. It's just frustrating to have it work fine on Monday but as soon as I booted it up yesterday it was slow with GPU acceleration turned on. I was hoping there wasn’t something wrong with my monitor or lightroom itself. Sorry I am new to the program, and I am unsure as to how much of a difference it makes.

Did you try the latest Studio driver with Clean Install checked in Advanced mode.

No issue in 10.2 with or without GPU enabled

this is an issue with Lightroom since its working fine in Library mode ,

Performance in Library module vs Develop module is not viable comparison. The Library module uses Library previews, these are small raster files. The Develop module uses the Camera RAW CACHE to store previews on the fly. Each time you add another edit, that preview gets recreated, and it gets recreated moving thru each and every edit till it gets to the last one, some of the edits are more complex, any mods via Adjustment Brushes are especially nasty. (Adobe actually recommends doing those near to last), if you are displaying at 4K and beyond, this gets very nasty, each and every pixel is recreated, one edit at a time.

I dont have a 4k monitor and on my 2k monitor I could work properly beyond Lightroom 10.2.

Check your Windows OS power savings for any changes back to defaults that may have occured via a OS update. (Change Power Settings to High Performance to Optimize Speed)

Check your NVIDIA controll settings for similar, and while you are at it update the driver (yous new enough to not be the cause) latest would be v471.68 not v471.41

This problem is occuring more than 1 month ago, already tried several Nvidia drivers, power saving is ok, nothing to modify, this is an issue with Lightroom since its working fine in Library mode , I need professional help not by guessing and sending me links with Lightroom optimizations from 6 years ago, clearly there is something wrong with Lightroom since in Library mode the paning at 100% is smooth but in Develop mode is not.

1. CAMERA RAW SIZE

Your Camera RAW CACHE setting is set to default. The default value of 5GB, is much too low. This will affect develop module performance (not library module performance)

try something more like 20 GB, heck, if you have the space, just bump up to something like 70GB.

2. CAMERA RAW LOCATION

A Windows PC, do you have another hard drive to place the Camera RAW CACHE on? The Camera RAW CACHE and the Windows paging file will compete for read/wrights if on the same drive. LrC can see performance benefits if the Camera RAW CACHE is nit on C drive, and can take advantage of faster drives.

I see you placed the catalog on drive E. Is that a nice SSD? Both the catalog and the CACHE can leverage a fast drive (photos not)

Doesn't matter what value I set there, I tried 15 GB, no help.

Try 70GB, and Purge the CACHE, and restart LrC.

Multiple users reported same issue here but for some days we cannot post on that forum anymore so I moved the topic here since Lightroom 10.4 was released and the issue is still not fixed:

I have Windows 10 Pro with all the latest updates installed, latest Nvidia drivers and Adobe Lightroom updated

That word, latest, often considered a dirty filthy word, often wrong, Oh, you clearly stated LrC v10.4, but the rest?

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.
