    So:

    • catalog and photos on D drive, 1TB capacity, 522GB free (so much better than 20% and room for and it an for images) and it is a NVME (fast)
    • Camera RAW CACHE on C drive, and set to 30GB (not the awful 5GB default) also a NVME

     

    Only consideration on that would (for a Windows computer) to relocate the camera RAW CACHE to a drive not containing the Windows Paging file, typically on C (Camera RAW CACHE and Paging file could be competing in terms of read/wrights). This may present a small performance improvement in Develop.

    I can upvote that. I've just installed Capture One, and oh boy, how fast that thing works! Switching photos - instantenous. Sliding any slider - instant smooth visual update.

    I've editing small RAW files - 22 mb.

    Having very powerful Ryzen 5800X3D with GeForce 4070 Ti and 32 GB ram and NVME drive, Lightroom works more or less the same as on 5 years old machine. From what I see Lightroom Classic never speeds up, no matter what hardware update I made. It's even worse - after updating to Windows 11 LRC got much slower.

    What is slow?

    * Switching photos in Develop mode (takes 1 - 2 seconds to update the UI after selecting other photo, more when the photo has adjustments and masks. Try clicking few photos in sequence fast, UI will just go berserk for many seconds)

    * adjusting any slider - picture update is sloppy, both on GPU and CPU (lately CPU only is much smoother than GPU)

    * applying masks

    I'm really surprised why LRC slider adjusting is not really 60 fps smooth - on such powerful machines as we have now, changing exposure of 22 mb photo should have no problem with updating even 144 fps. Yet, LRC just likes to be choppy.

      Just wanted to chip in and let you know you're not alone, your experience sounds identical to mine.
      The UI in lightroom has been a repainting slideshow hot mess since LR6.0 for me (Non CC). As you report, CaptureOne is lightning fast for everything, I switched a few years ago and keep checking in on LR to see if it's improved, and, sadly, it seems to be getting worse.

      My issue is the UI feels like it's running at 4fps. It's so sluggish to move around the program. Actually making edits isn't that bad but the application itself is bogged down. I've rebuilt my PC 4-5 times over the last decade and every time it's the same. Currently a Ryzen 9 7950X with 64gb RAM & SSDs everywhere and it's still useless.

        • Where is your catalog located, what drive? What type of drive?
        • How much space is free in % on the drive containing your catalog?
        • Where are your photos located, what drive?
        • The drive the photos are on, how large how much space free (quantity)
        • In LrC /preferences/performance, where do you keep the Camera RAW CACHE, what drive? What type of drive?
        • The Camera RAW CACHE setting for amount, how much?
        • Do you automatically wright changes to xmp?

        as are the photos. free space is from 1 tb 522G

            Meets Adobe reccomendation for low end (8 GB also supported, but poorly). Eventually this may be too low. If you have a desktop, consider increasing.

            Graphics Processor Info:

            So v456.72, this is old, approaching 3-1/2 years old, current at NVIDIA is v551.23, consider updating, when you do, select Studio driver, and select custom install type as to force a clean install. This can effect develop module performance.

             

            NVIDIA 1060, getting very old. may or may not support newer LrC features. Would expect AI Denoise to be very slow.

             

            6GB VRAM, Ok, but if you get a new GPU look for at least 8GB, higher is better.

             

            Summary, update that GPU driver.
