Lightroom Classic Importing Greyed-Out images

New Here ,
Dec 16, 2025 Dec 16, 2025

My LrC recently started doing this as of last month and I have no idea how to fix it. I cull my photos in Narrative, and then it ships to LrC from my SSD. When the files come in, the previews at the bottom are completely greyed out, but when I click on it to edit, it shows the image. Then when I'm not on it, it turns grey again. I have done so much researching on how to fix this but have come up with nothing! My LrC is on the latest version.

Your screenshot does not load. What you describe sounds like 'Narrative' sets the 'Rejected' flag. That means Lightroom Classic will still import the images, but show them as 'Rejected'. If you do not take any action yourself by deleting the rejected images, then they'll stay in the catalog and can be edited normally, but are greyed out in the Library because of that flag.

If that is not what happened, then repost your screenshot. Do not attach it however, but embed it. Use this button:

The forum has been broken for the last day or two, unable to preview attachments, though you can download them.  Here's @Kylie_Hagerman2835's attachment:

OK, that is a different problem. It looks like your 'catalogname previews.lrdata' cache may be corrupted. Try this. Move this package out of the catalog folder and then start Lightroom. Initially you won't see any thumbnails at all, but then Lightroom should start rebuilding them one by one. Now check if newly imported images are also getting thumbnails correctly. If this solves it, then you can trash the old cache.
