Not sure what to do here, but before my lightroom classic updated I was editing with no issues. Now since it has updated, it crashes before I can do anything. Extremely frustrating. Any help here? Thanks!

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

If Lightroom doesn't start correctly the please see "Solution 2" in the document behind the second link.

Troubleshoot GPU issues | Lightroom Classic (adobe.com)

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

If this doesn't help we need more informations about your environment.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of Lightroom do you use?

Please post the exact version and not only phrases as "recent", "latest" and so on.

Do you get an error message? If yes, please post the exact message or an screenshot.

Thanks for helping, Axel Matt! So far, a new cat opened up with the same name as my old cat (but with "-2" as the ext after the cat name now)... it seems that my problem is when I am trying to switch back to my previous cat, LRC crashes. I tried to optimize the cat but LRC will crash before that's complete. I tried to open the previous cat and do nothing just to see what happened, and without clicking anything, it still crashed within 30 seconds of switching to that cat so it seems that I am unable to open my old cat. Is there a way to optimize the old cat WITHOUT LRC being open?

I did the "uncheck graphics processor"  method you mentioned.

Mac 10.15.7 Catalina

LRC version 11.4.1

I got no "specific" error message, just the "lightroom unexpectedly crashed, would you like to reopen" message.

Hope this is more info! Thanks much!
