Lightroom Classic Keeps Freezing After Latest Update (v13.3)

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with Lightroom Classic after updating to version 13.3 (May 2025 release). The application freezes randomly during basic tasks—especially when I switch between the Library and Develop modules or try to export a batch of images.

System Info:

  • macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (also happened on Ventura)

  • MacBook Pro M1 Pro, 16GB RAM

  • Lightroom Classic v13.3

  • GPU acceleration enabled

  • Catalog and images stored on an external SSD (Samsung T7)

I’ve already tried:

  • Disabling GPU acceleration

  • Resetting preferences

  • Creating a new catalog

  • Reinstalling Lightroom

Nothing seems to help, and the app becomes unresponsive requiring a force quit. Activity Monitor doesn’t show anything unusual except for high CPU usage before the freeze.

Has anyone else encountered this since the recent update? Are there any workarounds or specific settings that help stabilize performance?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @finlay_7586! Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing in Lightroom Classic.

Just to clarify, do you mean version 14.3? That's the latest version. Could you share your System Info? You can find it in Lightroom Classic under Help > System Info. Just copy the info to a text file and attach it to your response, or share it with us through Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another file-sharing platform.

Thanks a bunch!

Alek

@Aleke I'm having a similar problem except it immediately freezes when opening. My computer updated from Monterey to Sequoia 15.6.1 and Lightroom updated to 14.5.1. It upgraded my catalog and now when opening the catalog I immediately get the spinning wheel of death. If I open it without a specific catalog, it does not freeze.
Computer info: Macbook pro, m1 Max, 64gb memory

Lightroom catalog & images are stored on Sasmung SSD T9

Hi @chelseahope, welcome to the community!

Just checking, does this issue only happen with one specific catalog? If so, it might be that the catalog got corrupted somehow.

To test it, you can follow the steps in this guide:
https://adobe.ly/4gu38jJ

Here’s a quick summary of what you can try:

Press and hold Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) while launching Lightroom Classic. In the Select Catalog dialog, choose the catalog that’s giving you trouble and check Test integrity of this catalog.
Alternatively, you can click Create a New Catalog and then try importing the corrupt one into it.
If the catalog is stored on an external drive, try copying it to your local drive and opening it from there.

Let me know how it goes or if you need help with any of the steps!

Thanks,
Alek
