Lightroom Classic Mask Settings

Community Beginner ,
Sep 01, 2023 Sep 01, 2023

Hi,

When i open any mask in lightroom classic the colour temp always defaults to -50 and the subject turns to blue,

I then need to manually slide the colour tem to 0

How can i change the default setting for colour temp to 0 when i open any mask in lightroom CL please?

Thanks

In the mask panel there is a checkbox to reset the sliders when you create a new mask.

You don't see any settings when you first click Masking button on an image that has got no masks yet.

But the moment you've chosen a kind of new mask to place - or, if you do have a previously made mask on this image - the settings do appear including this option:

richardplondon_0-1704546025421.png

Older versions of LrC may not have this checkbox. For those (and this method continues to work for later versions, when this option is not checked) you can still control what initial adjustment set should appear by default for newly made local adjustments.

The sequence for that is: select to place (e.g.) a brush adjustment - or on more recent versions, open Masks panel - but do not as yet click on image to begin brushing / whatever. Changes of adjustment sliders at this moment will be adopted as your new defaults. That can include clicking Reset to re-initialise all the sliders / choosing a local adjustment preset / moving sliders around manually.

Then when you do actually place a new local adjustment (of any kind) those will be used as its starting settings unless the 'automatically reset' checkbox highlighted in the screenshot, is acting as an override.

This is by contrast with moving sliders while any particular local adjustment / mask is active. In that circumstance, altering the adjustment sliders affects that one instance only.

I use Lightroom, not Lightroom Classic. I encounter the same problem, but there is no check box to reset the sliders. Do you or anybody in this community know how to overcome this issue?

Please do not post a question about another version of Lightroom in an old thread about Lightroom Classic. You're much more likely to get a correct answer if you post in the correct forum.
