Question

Lightroom Classic not syncing - maybe "proxyfile" missing?

I have a picture which does not sync to my Lightroom Classic on my Mac.

I did a little investigation and found the following:

Lightroom Web is telling me that changing a picture is not possible because of a missing "proxyfile". I need to switch to my iPad and allow to sync the full picture.

I did and changes on my iPad for the specific picture are always synced to Lightroom Web and are visible. However the error message still remains.

The original picture was loaded via iPad from a Nikon Camera (NEF). The raw file is on Adobe Cloud. I have other pictures, taken at the same time (shot a series of 5 photos) which work without any issues (also be able to update the picture on Lightroom Web).

Any ideas are welcome.

Volker

This a mystery issue to me.

Can you post a screen shot of it if you can recreate it and also your LR version EXACTLY and your OS thanks Volker.

We will endeavour to get top the bottom of this for you.

    Mac OS 10.14.5

    Lightroom Version

    Sync status from Lightroom Classic

Error Message from Lightroom Web, after clicking on "Bearbeiten".

"The proxy file which is required for processing is not available. Following information might help to solve the problem. Sync of file _V19...NEF is not finalized. Open Lightroom on Volker's iPad to continue with sync. Added on 10.02.2019".

Just want to mention that I can download the picture in RAW and JPEG format with the "download function".

That means that despite of what you see in Lightroom web, the image has not been fully synced like the error message says. The only question is how to fix that. My suggestion would be as follows. On your iPad, tap the Share sheet button and then choose 'Export Original'. Choose the camera roll. Then delete the image from Lightroom iPad. Check that it is also deleted from Lightroom web. Now import it again in Lightroom iPad from the Camera Roll. It does mean you will lose your edits, but this may be the only way to get the sync done correctly.

This is the obviously answer :-)

I was hoping that Lightroom would have a mechanism to rebuild a missing or corrupt proxy file. This seems not be the case. :-(

    Thanks, Volker
