Error messge is 'Lightroom Classic quit unexpectedly'.

I get the message when quitting Lightroom.

Running Lightroom 14.1.1 on Mac OS 13.7.2 (22H313) Ventura.

Issue only started after updating to the latest release of Lightroom Classic.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Just updated to Ventura 13.7.5. Problem solved. Seems it was a problem with Ventura. There was a fix that addresses out of bounds memory addressing:

GPU Drivers

Available for: macOS Ventura

Impact: An app may be able to cause unexpected system termination or corrupt kernel memory

Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.

CVE-2025-24273: Wang Yu of Cyberserval

CVE-2025-30464: ABC Research s.r.o.

Seems like this may be the one that fixed it.

Also just updated to Ventura 13.7.5. Problem seems to have been resolved. Thanks @roberts77626518 for the update. Oddly, enough I decided to send a recent crash report to Apple 'just for the hell of it' as Adobe's communication on this issue has been extremely dissapointing - even if it was an Apple issue.

Does LR Classic 14.2 fix this issue?

@Sameer K@roberts77626518I would like to know this as well. This topic surely must be affecting quite a few users. Sameer, please see the thread for what has been tried based on your suggestions...

Upgraded to 14.2. Same problem on exit. Had to roll back to 14.0.

I'm afraid that 14.0 is as far as I can go with the Intel Mac. I have a feeling that becuase this computer is not eligible to update to the latest Mac OS, Sequoia, nobody is going to invest time or money to solve this problem. Planned obsolescence rears it's ugly head. 😞

An update -- I rolled back to version 14.0.1 and closed the program with optimize and integrity checked for the backup 4 times with no error. Running 14.1 and 14.1.1 caused the error.

@Sameer K @roberts77626518 - I have replicated what @roberts77626518 carried out in his post above by rolling back to version 14.0.1 and also reproducing the steps of multiple closing/opening and creating backups. My results are the same - no error message upon quitting Lightroom Classic, which to me also suggests an issue with updates 14.1 and 14.1.1. In addition, Lightroom Classic also appears to be running faster since rolling back to version 14.0.1. I'm going to refrain from updating for a while, but will keep an eye for any issues. So far, it's working correctly running version 14.0.1.

Thanks for the update, @roberts77626518 & the tag @cephotographyuk. Try this:

1 - In the last version that works with the Primary Catalog, go to File > Create new catalog.

2 - Import your primary catalog into the new catalog by using File > Import from the catalog & select the Primary Catalog.

3 - Upgrade Lightroom Classic to the latest version & use the new catalog you created by importing the Primary Catalog.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I'd like to add to this. I have the same problem iMac 2017 Intel 3.4 Ghz Quad core i5, Ventura 13.7.2., Lightroom Classic 14.1.1. Catalog backups are on a thumb drive. I tried unchecking optimize and check integrity when backing up the catalog. The program closes then I get the error message just as it does when I leave those options checked

For what it's worth, my research on Apple's site points to a illegal memory call during shutdown which seems to be unique to the x86 architecture. Like the previous poster, this problem started around the same time the newest update came out.

I've attached the complete crash report that is sent to Apple. I have 4 crash reports to date.

thanks @roberts77626518 - I'm glad I am not the only one experienceing this issue. As requested by @Sameer K , I am replying and adding him in to elevate the issue somewhat in the hope that it get's investigated.

Does LrC open at all and is usable for a few minutes before this crash? Are there specific actions in LrC that you are doing just before this crash, or do the crashes appear to be random?

If LrC opens and you can do things before the crash, go to Help->System Info and paste the info there into your reply (down to and including the plugin information, we don't want anything after that)

Hi!

From what I can see Lrc behaves while working in the application and only shows the error message after quiting. I have the option to backup the catalog prompt to 'always show on quitting' to give me the choice whether to backup or not.

So, I tried exiting once by backing up the catalog and once without and it turns out the error message DOES NOT appear when not creating a backup of my catalog.

As requested - system info below.

With thanks,

Hey, @cephotographyuk. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Is there a crash report pop-up when Lightroom Classic crashes? Please submit the crash reports to us: https://adobe.ly/4cE76mn

Where is the catalog stored? On the internal, or external drive? Try these suggestions:

1 - Move the catalog from the to a non-syncing, local folder on your Windows machine.

2 - Launch Lightroom Classic with a new catalog & go to File > Import from catalog > target your old catalog. Proceed with merging the (potentially) corrupted catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog. For more help via video-based steps, check here. See https://adobe.ly/3NTC9Rv

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi Sammer

Catalog is stored on the System HD - internal on Mac OS .

I can send a crash report but the submit button says 'SEND TO APPLE' which I find a bit odd.

I'll go ahead and try step 2 and report back in a few days. I have also replied below to dj_paige.

thanks
