@farouk j, The article at the link below will assist you in becoming familiar with the "Automatically write metadata to xmp" option in Lightroom Classic.

First, off it is an option, it is not the default.

You will NOT see the XMP files in Lightroom. You will have to go to your system browser (File Explorer, etc.) in order to see those files.

You haven't told us what kind of files you're working with.

As I've mentioned before, XMP files are only created for proprietary raw files. (NEF, CR2, RAF, etc.)

For all other file types, XMP data is written directly to the header of the files.

I assume that you mean can not find any xmp files.

For DNG files, and rendered files like jpg and tiff, XMP data is written directly to the files, so no XMP files are created.

You will only get XMP files with proprietary raw files.

"You will only get XMP files with proprietary raw files."  And, only when you do a Develop module edit on one of the Nikon, Canon, etc. files.  Then it will be saved with the same name and in the same location as that raw file.

Adobe changed the rules for when an XMP file is created. You first need to enable them and also ensure the background job is running. Next, there needs to be a development setting changed for the RAW photo to trigger writing of the XMP. If you want to ensure you always get a XMP file created on Import, set a Develop Setting. I use Lens Correction.
