Lightroom- Customize filter bar in the filmstrip? I don't want "kind" or "edit" to show...

Community Beginner ,

In the filmstrip, where it says "Filter" towards the bottom right of the screen, it shows flags, edits, rating, color, and "kind".

I ONLY want to see the flags, rating, and colors.  (Not kind or edits)

I've been able to fix this in other versions, but since intalling from scratch on a new computer, I can't seem to make "kind" and "edits" dissapear??

It's hogging precious space on the area of the screen that I use most often and I can't seem to figure out how to customize this.

Clicking the "Filter" buttom (where the hand appears) gives an all or nothing approach, and hitting the "Filters off" toggle (with up/down arrows) only gives me flags and ratings, but no color options (where did this option go?).

What am I missing?  My previous LR was set up this way and it was perfect for culling images.

Hoping that someone can help?  I'm on a Mac OS.

These are your options from the dropdown:

This is the area that I'm talking about (not up above as shown in the previous screencapture).  I'd like to get rid of the kind and edit icons ONLY showing the flags, rating, and colors- even being able to sort them (move around) might be helpful- but I can't seem to find a way to customize this one bar.  I can mark the picture up if necessary to be more precise?

Up at the top for Filter? It's all or nothing when set to Attribute:

So, no way to selectively get rid of (or hide from view) the kind/edit from the "attribute" menu either (Top of screen in grid view)??

I used to be able to just use the filter drop down (very bottom right hand corner of screen) and it would put only the ones that I wanted on there, but since colors aren't in that dropdown menu, maybe they've removed this feature?  Super bummed because it's slowing me down having to "avoid" accidentally hitting sort features that I don't want in the filmstrip bar to begin with.  Kinda like PS home menu that I can't get to go away since the fresh install (and I've even tried all the tricks) Sigh 😕

This filter bar in the filmstrip on the right — as far as I can see, you can have all the icons, or just the dropdown menu at the right (which says "Flagged" in your screen capture) and none of the icons. I don't see a way to select the individual icons to turn them off or on.

Yes, I have ALL the icons, which is sadly what I'm "complaining" about- I only want 3 of them there.  I can't find a way to toggle on/off either, I was hoping there was someone else smarter than me that has worked through this.  It was set up the "right" way on my last computer, now they seemed to have removed the color labels as an option in the dropdown menu making it "all or nothing" as far as I can tell 😞

On Mac if you reset the preferences:

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.

2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

4. Close Lightroom.

5. Restart Lightroom.

The Filter Bar will come back blank. You can click on the items to add them back. But, if you add one by accident or that you don't want, you have to reset the preferences again.

Good to know, but: wow, that certainly is a messy way in which the product deals with these icons.

Perhaps the OP will consider making this a feature request to reset them in with a lesser blunt-force approach.

Ha!  Thank you for all the info- I didn't want to reset preferences because I had JUST configured everything, so didn't really want to start over.  But I did find a work around (which now I saved as a preset- let's just hope it sticks!). Here's what worked for me, just in case anyone else has this issue.  With a folder open (that already had flags/colors/ratings) I just hit the flag, rating, and color icons and then hit the word FILTER and it made the other 2 filters disappear.  Yay!  Screen Shot 2022-10-10 at 2.55.11 PM.png

Hi All. I'm having the strangest bug i think. In the mentioned filter bar above the filmstrip (Not the toolbar!) the buttons are missing every time i shut LR down. Then i have to get them back via (Mac) Menu: file/LibraryFilter.... see screenshot. I need to activeate each of the 5 Buttons ( color, rating, etc..). Happened after installing a time Machine backup.... Can anyone help? I've tried so much...

Thank you!

Screenshots explained:

This is what i need. Usually it's always there:Bildschirmfoto 2024-09-14 um 17.42.42.jpg

After restart LR, the filter "buttons" are missing:

vie Menu it always takes 5x the process to get them back: Preset/Label/rating/color/type

Click on the "Filter:" text beside No filter.

It will toggle between showing/hiding the active filter icons.

No filter toggles between all icons and no icons visible,

Something like Red & 2 stars toggles between all icons and just showing the stars/colours.
