Lightroom Export Color Issues: Fixing Contrast Problems with Display P3

Hello 🙂

Coming back from a trip abroad I wanted to finally edit and export my pictures. Problem is, when exporting said pictures, it seems to crank up the contrast.

So when I modify a picture in lightroom (simple and classic both have the issue), I don't have the true colours up until the export is done. Like working blindfolded...

My screen is setup with a Display P3 ICC profile, I export in PNG with the Display P3 colour gamut.

I've tried veiwing hte pictures with different apps and it still renders the same. So export problem.

I tried to look online this issue, activated soft-proofing and nothing changed.

I don't want to go insane, please help me 🙂

(you'll find a screen capture of said difference)

Hello,

So I de-activated something called "colours managed by apps" and installed a new ICC profile and it worked somehow...

Thank you all for helping !

Hello everyone, I'm facing the same issue. I've already tried disabling 'Automatically manage color for apps' in Windows and switched my ICC profile to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, but the problem persists. The histogram of the exported TIFF (16-bit) is still noticeably different from the original RAW histogram within Lightroom. Any ideas ?

Hey @JmyLds

Can you share what version of Lightroom Classic you’re seeing this issue in? You should be able to find this information by going to Help > System Info.

Hi,
I use the Lightroom Classic 15.2.1, and the same problem on the Lightroom 8.3.1
Thank you in advance for your help

What is the model of your display?

Is the panel natively Display P3, or does it have a hardware setting for Display P3?

AlienWare AW2725DM, adverised at 95% DCI-P3. Display P3 or DCI-P3 ICC profile in windows (both have the same result).

Do not export as Display P3. Every non-color managed app will show the colors incorrectly if you do that. Export as sRGB.

I tried exporting with all the colour profiles and it does the same 😕😕

That sounds like you are looking at the exported image in a non-color managed app. Even though sRGB should give you the closest match, it won't give a full match. Only color managed apps show the correct colors (on a calibrated monitor, that is).
