Lightroom Redo shurtcode changed

Explorer ,
Mar 01, 2023 Mar 01, 2023

I'm used to the classic redo shortcut on all Adobe app Ctrl+Shift+Z.
However, it seems that shortcut change on Lightroom Classic to become Ctrl+Y (as in the Office and MS world).

How to get back the old and classic shortcut ?
even Adobe didn't update that change in their website :
https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/lightroom-cc/using/keyboard-shortcuts.html

Thank you.

  • First up, what exact LrC version do you have?
  • Second up, the link you posted is for Lightroom Desktop, a.k.a Lightroom Ecosystem (Cloud Based) Lr, Not Lightroom Classic LrC.
  • Third, if LrC, what Redo?
  • Forth, I see no CTRL + Y in the link below.

see: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/keyboard-shortcuts.html

Ok, see this reference instead:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/keyboard-shortcuts/

and select the correct a--.

Cntrl + Z should be UNDO/Redo, at least in Library.

Hi

  • I have version 12.2 of LrC
  • Ok, didn't know that second app for Lightroom CC. However, in your link, redo shortcut isn't listed.

Thank you.

On your new link, the undo shortcut is "Cmd+Shift+Z" for Mac, but for windows it's "Ctrl+Y" ... So my point is how can we have the same old and good shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+Z", like in all other Adobe apps.

Windows LR has used Ctrl Y as the standard shortcut shown in the menus for Redo since LR 3:

https://web.archive.org/web/20120719012726/http://www.lightroomqueen.com/downloads/bookexcerpts/lr3e...

But Ctrl Shift Z also invokes Redo.  I've verified that both Ctrl Y and Ctrl Shift Z work in LR 12.2, and I believe that's been the case since LR 3.  But don't have access to my old versions right now -- I can verify in a day or two if you doubt it.

The Adobe documentation for keyboard shortcuts is incomplete and not up-to-date.  The Lightroom Queen's lists are the most authoritative.

Is Ctrl Shift Z not working for you in LR 12.2?

Thank you for your answer, I understand better now. I never noticed that Ctrl+Y worked before, because I never used it.

And yes, unfertunately, Ctrl+Shift+Z doesn't work for me ...

"Ctrl+Shift+Z doesn't work for me ..."

In which language are you running LR?

Interesting. Ctrl Shift Z works for me in French, English, German, and several other languages I tried (Windows LR 12.2).  I wonder what's going on with your configuration.

You could submit a formal bug report, but unless Adobe can easily reproduce the problem, they almost certainly won't investigate further:

Are you using an AZERTY keyboard?

Hello Rikk,

Yes I'm using an AZERTY keybord. I allready try to map a QWERTY keyboard, still doesn't work.

I tried my AZERTY keyboard and Ctrl Shift Z correctly invokes Redo on my Windows 10 and 11 test machines -- this is consistent with you observing the problem occurs with QWERTY too.  There's obviously something particular to your LR installation or Windows settings.

Perhaps you have a background utility that's globally assigned Ctrl Shift Z.  For example, the graphic card manufacturer AMD has utilities that are notorious for globally assigning Ctrl Shift <letter> shortcuts.  I think the easiest way to verify that is to try rebooting into Windows Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.

"But currently, Ctl+Shift+Z is working with all my other apps (Premiere, Photoshop, ...)"

That of course makes it less likely it's a background utility.  But it's quick to try rebooting into Safe Mode just to verify.
