Tell us in detail what actually happens. If there is an error message, please quote the exact complete unedited word-for-word error message.

Dear Forum. The error message is as follows. "The item Lightroom.exe. that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut. YES-NO

As this version was installed over five years ago I do not have the relevant access code.

That is a message from Windows telling you that the shortcut you had on the Desktop or in the Task Bar no longer points to the LR 4.4 .exe file. It doesn't necessarily mean that the app is not installed, only that the shortcut is not good. Delete the old shortcut, it is useless now. To confirm that LR is still there go to Settings > Apps and look down the list for Adobe Lightroom 4.4,  If it is there it is easy to create a new shortcut.  Go to C:/Program Files if your installation is 64 bit or C:/Program Files (x86) if it is 32 bit, then open Adobe/Adobe Lightroom 4.4 and browse down until you find the file with the Lr icon and the extension .exe. Right-click on it and choose Send to > Desktop or Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar, depending on where you want the shortcut.

If LR isn't listed in the list of Apps, you will have to download and install it and find your old registration number. If you have an Adobe Account maybe it is there.

You can download 4.4.1 from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom

However, what you still need is the license code to activate it.

btw. I'm not sure that this old version will run with the latest Windows 10.
