Lightroom WONT delete photos from disk

I understand the diffrencce between deleting a photo from LR verses completely deleting from the disk.

However when I try to "delete a photo from disk" through light room it remains on my disk no matter what i do.

I do click the option "delete from disk" verses "remove" from LR

any ideas on what is happening here?

Yes, I was tagging photos and had selected a collection with a specific tag. When I go back to folders all is well. Thank you.

You’ve posted to a very old thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same issue which you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information including system information, a complete description of the problem and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

In the unlikely event the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

    Thank you!

@rebecaf6825028  Which VERSION of "Lightroom" are you using?

In Lightroom (the Cloud version)- Your photos are managed IN THE CLOUD. So you can ONLY Delete them from the Lightroom Catalog. There is NO "drive" in the Cloud.

However what might be misleading is that Lightroom (the Cloud version) can also manage 'copies' of the Cloud files on your disk, and when you Delete from the Cloud Lr will also delete the managed files on a local disk. AND Lr can take its time doing this! It may not happen immediately!

ie. File management is all via the Cloud for Lightroom.

    (Lightroom-CLASSIC is something different)

"The same thing happens to me, I can't take photos in lightroom"

Is there a Question here? Please be more specific.

    Lightroom ('old' Perpetual 1-6) ?

    Lightroom-Classic ?

    Lightroom-Mobile ?

    Lightroom-Web ?

Could it really be this easy?  I have had this trouble for months.  I changed to using Lightroom Classic and now the photos delete from the disc.

Hard to say what happened for you.

This thread is over ten years old....

May 30, 2018 and it was working for a little bit and now it's happening to me, will not give me the option to delete from disk but when i hit the delete key it just removes it from the Lightroom CC and the file remains in it's place on the disk...frustrating.

Same problem here, the unacceptable addition that the selected file(s) are not deleted, but some other random files are deleted. I know this because the file count for the folder in question goes down.

I have had the same problem. I found that if it was a .dng file it wouldn't delete. But if I right-clicked, chose Go to Folder in Library, and then selected the file (usually a psd), it would delete. Does seem like a bug-

Tell me how can a DNG file be a PSD file??? Is there a mis-association in Lightroom somehow? if it is a PSD on disk and Lightroom thinks it's a DNG of course it will not delete via Lightroom...

I stumbled upon this post because I also encountered the same issue. It took a while to figure out my mistake though.

When you import a photo to Lightroom, there will be a new folder created in the same directory as the source of your photos. For example, you have a 'Travel' folder in your 'Pictures' Library folder. When you import a photo, a new folder will be created by Lightroom (in my case, a '2016' folder) with the copy of the imported photo. Now, when you decide to delete this photo in Lightroom by selecting "Delete from Disk", Lightroom will delete the photo from the '2016' folder and not from the original source folder of the imported photo.

My mistake is, I was checking the original source folder of my photos and was dumbfounded why even if I choose "Delete from Disk", the photo doesn't get deleted from that source folder. Butt when I realized there is a new folder created by Lightroom, I have confirmed "deleting from disk" moves the photo from the Lightroom created folder ('2016') to the Recycle Bin.

I see this post was started years ago. It is now 2016. I'm use LR 4.3 on a MAC. I delete from disk within LR. Photos go to Trash. I empty Trash. Some photos simply will not be removed from the hard drive, other will with no problem. Can anyone tell me how to change the permissions on the Mac? Perhaps certain photos shot on the iPhone and edited in apps are being blocked from deletion, as others have suggested? Photos shot with my Canon delete just fine!
