Question

Losing star rating

I seem to have acquired an irritating quirk

My longtanding workflow has been to import my photos (Copy raw as DNG) , Ctrl A in Library Grid view, rate as one star and then start rating as 0 or 2 (with Auto Advance checked under Photo)

My last few days have seen the screen "flick" and for them all to revert to 0 stars after a minute or two of sorting (so that sorting is lost) on almost all occasions

No recurrence after the initial revert

Lightroom Classic version: 14.4 [ 202506051112-5918896a ]

Windows 11 Home Build 26100.4349

Canon R5 Mk1

Hi @ArcherA4! Thanks for reaching out!

Are you able to reproduce the error consistently? If so, it would be super helpful if you could share a screen recording of it happening.

As a first step, you might also want to try resetting Lightroom preferences. This will restore the app to its default settings and can often help clear up unexpected issues.

Thanks so much!

Thanks @Aleke

Caught it

I shot some random stuff on my desk and imported after a PC restart - all set to 1 star then randomly sorted to 0s and 2s
Did some random editing to the last one star image then at 2mins 44secs they all become one star again and the edits to the one star revert (but are still visible and retrievable from the history - ?)

The file is over size (and has some identifiable info in it) - I've uploaded it to my Google Photos - have you got somewhere I can send the link?

Latest @Aleke

Other old PC needed update but wasn't having it - worked with no glitch on 14.0.1 Build [202410161356-30922cfc] but it wouldn't update to 14.4 Build [202506051112-5918896a] (avx2 support required)

Got it onto an up to date laptop as a clean intall 14.4 Build [202506051112-5918896a] which is same as glitching PC but worked with no glitch on the laptop...

Glitching PC is glitching every time...

Presumably something isn't playing nicely

PC has 2 x NVMe 1tb SSDs - Photos are on D (which is a bit bloated as one disc on my NAS corrupted and I'm waiting for a new bit - it was due a clear out but it still has 74Gb free
Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K 3.00 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (61.7 GB usable)
Device ID AF539FB9-CA43-4668-B396-25663C3EE53D
Product ID 00342-21045-25307-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Getting late here - I'll dump a few hundred Gb from D onto an external drive tomorrow in case that's upsetting it...

Hi @ArcherA4! Thanks so much for testing this out, really appreciate you sharing your findings!

Quick question, are your photos or catalog stored on a NAS by any chance? I’ve seen that cause some hiccups for folks before, especially when the catalog is on a network drive.

Appreciate your help!
