Lost photo's on Lightroom Classic

I have tried to locate missing photo's but cannot. The message is "xxx could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I press locate. It still cannot find them. I have looked at your pages on this subject and still no joy. I fear they may be in the recycle bin but cannot retrieve them from there either.

    Hi Johan, 

    I have tried searching in  the dialogue box, but I cannot find them. In addition I keep getting messages like this everytime (see image) I am trying to edit any image and this and other messages keep coming up. Something is wrong, but I do not know what is wrong to make right?

    This is a totally unrelated problem. It looks like you keep your catalog folder in Dropbox. That is not advisable because there are lots of problem with Dropbox lately.

    Hi Johan, I can't still locate the photo's. On the second issue re Dropbox, I guess I just need to move this folder elsewhere on my laptop? How do most people set this up? I seem to be downloading from my SD card to a hard drive via Lightroom. Totally confused about what is being saved on my laptop, where and why!

    Lightroom will not locate it, you have to do that in the dialog that comes up. Perhaps you should search in Windows Explorer first if you do not know where it is either.
