Lost recent edits in collections after a crash

Yesterday I suffered a hard drive crash while working in Lightroom. Lightroom had been open for over 24 hours. I had done some edits in two seperate collections. After the crash, those edits, including TIF files created using Photoshop as an external editor, no longer show in the collection. The good news is that the new files created are still in the root folder on my hard drive. However, if I try to re-import the missing files back into the collection, the files are greyed out in the import function, indicating they are already there, even if I de-select "Don't import selected duplicates".  Just want to get my collections synced back to where they were before the crash. Any ideas?

Turns out is was simpler than that. USing the left side panel in LRC, drag and dropped the missing images from the folder to the collection. Problem solved. Thanks for the response!

Does "those edits" refer to Photoshop TIF files and/or exported versions of photos in LrC, or something else? What does it refer to?

Importing is not the right thing to do. Take those TIF photos in the root folder of your hard drive, and using your operating system copy and paste them into the folder where LrC expects them to be. As for the rest of the photos affected, I need an answer to the question above.

Remember that collections are virtual, the photos in a collection are pointed to a folder containing the photos. If you look in the folder the photos(s) is/are in, you should be able to see and edit them (or in All Photos).

 

If the collection still exists, then the photos can be added back into the collection (cross fingers), if the collection is gone, then perhaps create a new collection ( a new one with different name) then restart LrC, and see if the missing collection(s) come back. (old trick, never proved, but worth a try)

 

One issue. Was the catalog open at time of the hard drive crash?

Was the catalog on that hard drive?

Either one, especially the second, could cause a catalog corruption.

Figured it out. So simple, it was hard. Literally a drag and drop of the missing images from the folder to the collection and I'm back in biz. THanks for the response!
