LR can't start at all!

Hello everybody!

I experienced a very strange problem. I have never seen an issue like that before.
LR classics can't start at all.

It does, but after about 20-30 seconds of waiting I get a window with a choice how to backup as if I am closing the app,

and there is no way to continue.
I even reinstalled LR - the same.

What I have to do?

    Hello David

    and thanks for your help,

I was too optimistic, NO, it doesn't work.
Creative cloud is on, logged in, can check updates and everything, it is updated. Internet is always on.
Catalog back up option was set to backup upon exit. Now I have it set to Never, so LR just goes down after a while silently.
So I can't run it. Photoshop does the same. About 20-30 seconds of "work" and then it exits.
Both apps without any windows or alerts...

I migrated to LR from Aperture quite a long time ago and never (never) have had anything like that before with LR...

PS: Somehow, I could manage to start LR at least, it is open now and not going to exit. It took me at least dozens of trials to make it able to work.

I did ask Adobe support and after an hour of investigations I got such answer:

Adobe Support : The Lightroom 8.1 version is not supporting your system with mac 10.14.2

Adobe Support : It is becoming unresponsive.

Adobe Support : I have installed 7.5 version for you that will work fine.

Adobe Support : Till the time mac and Adobe have further updates, do not update LR classic.

    Mojave, such a dirty word.

Links on how to reset your preferences are below, read/view them before proceeding if you want to attempt that. Resting the preferences has possible repercussions, you will hve to change any defaults you previously changed in preferences, and LR might bring up a new catalog instead of your old one (simply have to bring up the correct one)

    Thank you, David!

It seems that after a while the problem has been solved on its own without any actions from my side.
But there is a number of issues I got last times launching LR, not only this one.
For a few months sometimes I launched LR  I got a window with a circle inside rounding until I don't know what without any buttons in it. If you try to click outside the window or click on the red close button, LR goes to back up.

Now I get this newly described and likely a connection error.

Obviously there are some changes in LR behavior located on log on procedure which are quite annoying.

At least two other members have had an issue like that, I think one brought it up in another members posting (so its really really hard to find as an exemplar)

I think that screen is one you get when your are not signed into Adobe, and Adobe thinks you should be. Now, one would ask, am I not allowed to use Lightroom when I am not on the internet?. And of course you are. But then I started to wonder if I had that problem with my desktop and not with my laptop, Turned out not really, but I ran an experiment with different scenarios to see when I could and could not run Lightroom without the internet, without signing on (how can I be signed on if no Internet???). Turns out a odd bit of gotcha occurs involving when you last had internet, and when you were signed in thru the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application. Trick is, before going on the road (i.e. not going to have internet, wont be signed in) to make sure you are signed in, and do not sign out before shutting your computer on, when you bring up your computer without internet, while the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop will bitch about no internet (if you check, its not bossy), Lightroom will launch with no complaint (and interestingly thinks you are singed in)

Now, that being said, in my experiment, that screen you are showing did not freeze up or stall, it took less than a second or two to come up. Looks like something else is going wrong i=on your rig.

    My experiment:

Scenario 1: Internet (yes), Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop, logged in (yes), Launch Lightroom, works fine

Scenario 2: Continuing with above status as a starting point (Internet yes, Adobe ID logged in via Creative Cloud Desktop yes) and with Lightroom running, if I go to the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app and sign out, I get a warning, Lightroom still runs (when I check, it has me in a not signed in status), cannot start Photoshop (get warning about not logged in, failure occurs when I cancel that). if I close Lightroom, and then attempt to launch Lightroom, I get the same failure as for Photoshop.

Scenario 3: Continuing scenario (1) (Internet yes, Adobe ID logged in via Creative Cloud Desktop yes)  then in Lightroom, sign out, get a warning but Lightroom still works. Cannot launch Photoshop, if I exit Lightroom then restart it Lightroom comes up, a warning and logon comes up, if I cancel, Lightroom exits

Scenario 4: Internet (yes), Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop, logged in (yes), In Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop, sign out, Launch Lightroom, it comes up, a warning and login comes up, canceling that Lightroom exits.

Scenario 5: Internet (yes), Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop, logged in (yes), Now if I intentionally disconnect from the Internet (unplugged cable, no wifi) the Creative Cloud Desktop does not indicate lack of Internet, but, when I launch Lightroom, a different warning/note pops up complaining about lack of internet, and that can't verify subscription status..Not given option to ignore, just try again or quit. Ahh,, at this point clicking on Creative Cloud Desktop comes up with notice of no internet Connection.

Scenario 6. If I Logout of my Adobe account via the Creative Cloud Desktop app, and I restart the computer, (and I do not have any auto log setup, if that is even possible) and then I reboot (and this includes a cold boot), upon startup the Creative Cloud Desktop App states I am not logged in. And launching Lightroom fails as above.

Scenario 7. If I am logged in via the Creative Cloud Desktop, and I shut down, disconnect my internet, and restart. Upon restart, the Creative Cloud Desktop, when brought up complains about no internet connection. BUT, when I start lightroom, it works. Note that if I look at (in lightroom) am I signed in? and it states yes. (apparently meaning signed in to the Creative Cloud Desktop app???)

END POINT, If previously to travel you were completely logged in to your Adobe account, And when you shut the laptop down, you did not sign out (your Adobe Account), then at next reboot without internet, Lightroom should work. If, for some reason you signed out from Adobe (via the Creative Cloud Desktop app) it will not.

This probably comes under the context of "Lightroom behaving Buggy" and a reset of the preferences file is called for.

However, perhaps a few steps to take.

    1. I will assume as you are communicating via the Internet that you currently have access, but is that via your computer?

    2. In you Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application, are you signed in?

    3. I asked about the Internet, because if you are not on the Internet, Lightroom should still launch and behave, as long as when you were last connected to the Internet, you did not sign out when done. Mind you, LR should have come up to be followed by an error screen, then closed. Not this blank screen, no LR then close.
