I have been using LR Classic without problems up until the other day.  It will not allow me to import photos, optimize, and I have to close by force quit.  running 14.0.1.  I have uninstalled and reinsatlled and have also created another catalog and I am able to import there with no problems.  Any and all suggestions will be helpful.

thanks Joyce

HI @jcmptn1

Hey there! We’d be happy to help troubleshoot. Are you seeing any error message? Does this happen to anything you try to import? Please also share your system info? You can find this by going to Help > System Info copying and pasting into a text file and attaching it here.

My LRC 14.0.1 just started doing this same no photos found issue.  What is going on?  What did you [Adobe] break in the coding?

Unfortunately you haven't given us any information about your system. Therefore, all proposed solutions are a look into the crystal ball.

You wrote you've done a reinstallation. Did you do a clean reinstallation by deleting all settings and preferences during the deinstallation? Do you use the  Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool  before you done the reinstallation? If no, do the reinstallation again and use the Cleaner Tool.

What has been changed on your system before the error occur?

Do you get any error messages?

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver? If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

As far as I see into you system info your graphic device driver is outdated.

Goto Nvidia's website and search for the matching driver. Make also sure that you have installed the Studio version and not the Game Ready version of your NVidia driver.

The Nvidia drivers have been updated, and the machine rebooted.  However, it continues to refuse to import photos from both the SD card and a hard drive.  What could be wrong?

This may have nothing to do with your Import problem. It probably can have a lot to do with any performance issues, and any occasionally stall or freeze.

While some say using LrC with OneDrive is the best thing in Heaven, others say it is from hell. Issue is an automatic sync of the LrC catalog to OneDrive can foul LrC up, and can eventually lead to a catalog corruption. Their are several posting in the community pro and con.

Blame this on Microsoft being heavy handed in trying to force the use of MS accounts in Windows as opposed to local accounts. That process leads automatically to OneDrive sync for various user library's (folders) in Windows such as Desktop (or more often for LrC users Pictures, also Videos, and Downloads)

You may want to consider fixing that. Either dissociate that folder with OneDrive. or move the catalog to a different folder that hs no connection to OneDrive.

A typical process for the latter would be:

  1. Create a new folder in the root of a hard drive not called Photos, Videos, Downloads, or Documents. Perhaps call it MyLightroom, or MyPhotography, or Rumpelstiltskin, anything other than Photos, Videos, Downloads, or Documents.
  2. Copy your catalog and the supporting files/folders to that new folder.
  3. In Windows File Explorer double click on that folder
  4. Repair any lost photos (actually missing folders)
  5. Deal with the olderr catalog as you see fit
  6. P.S. do you have a backup?

Thank you for the suggestions and quick response. Your comments are very
helpful.

To be clear, I am having two issues with LRC.

First, importing photos from SATA HDDs is failing. Second, after closing
LRC following a failed import attempt, a background LRC process is left
running. However, I cannot reopen LRC. Attempting to reopen LRC just
creates more background LRC processes. I have to restart my computer in
order to reopen LRC

The issues started after upgrading to LRC 14.01 and the LRC catalog update.
Windows 10 did its periodic update on 11/8/2024 to version 22H2 with no
error messages.

Actions taken thus far:

- Simple uninstall - reinstall (not a complete reinstall per your
instructions)
- Attempted to copy and import .jpg photos from a folder on a SATA HDD
that only contained .jpg photos and no videos. It failed. After waiting 5
minutes with nothing happening, I canceled import and got an error message,
"No photos or videos were found to import." During the "import", the
Windows task manager showed very little activity by the LRC app.
- Repeated import from a different SATA HDD. It failed with the same
results as above.
- Repeated import from a different USB hard drive and was successful.
- Repeated import from an SSD and was successful.
- Using Windows Explorer, I moved new photos to my preferred SATA HDD
folders for LRC and used the Import>Add function. The photos were
successfully added to the catalog.
- I was able to successfully import photos from my camera's SD card.
- After successful imports (USB HDs and via the SD card) I was able to
successfully close and reopen CLR without restarting my computer.
- Moving photos between folders within LRC was successful. Photos were
physically moved and the catalog appropriately updated.
- Exporting photos to the SATA HDDs is successful.
- Checked the NVIDIA driver. According to NVIDIA, there is no special
Studio driver for the GeForce GTX660. The driver is for both gaming and
studio creativity. The latest driver V475.14 was installed in July and did
not affect LRC.

Results so far:
LRC importing works fine from everything but the two SATA HDDs. The SMART
status of the two HDDs is Healthy.

Next steps:
Complete reinstall of LRC.
