Long time Lightroom user since version 1.0. Since Lightroom updated to 14.0.1 (Windows) I have been having trouble Importing photos from my memory card to the (internal) hard drive on my workstation. The process would be stuck at "Copy and Import Photos" and nothing happens. It would not copy the files, let alone renaming and cataloging them. When I cancel the import, Lightroom Classic would say "No photos or videos were found to import" and eject the card.
This is the stuck screen.
I have tried to:
1) Start a new catalog. Same result.
2) Uninstall, restart, reinstall Lightroom Classic. Same result.
Lightroom has basically become useless. Is anyone else encountering this issue?

@john beardsworth, I think your suspicion is correct. I actually had one video in my import set. The moment I deselected it, the photos imported fine.

Just spent 2 hours with Adobe.
They blamed my GPU for not being powerful enough/compatible with version 14. They reinstalled version 13 so I have something that can work for now. They recommended me to get RTX 2040 RTX 3060 RTX 4060, before reinstalling version 14.

Try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic: How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)
It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html
If this doesn't help, provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Thank you. I have tried that it resulted in an Import screen without thumbnails previews.

On top of that, upon Quiting Lightroom Classic, I cannot restart it. It shows up as a background process in Task Manager and it's stuck there and would not reopen.
If I tried to start Lightroom Classic again, it would just start another background processes.

Yup, done that, same resukt. I am thinking it is a windows 10 problem as I am W10 too.

I doubt it. Every other piece of software is working just fine. It is a Lightroom Classic problem.

I have issues with an iMac, M1. Since LRC 13 it's been a slowdown, extra hours.
I upgraded my SSD where I keep my large catalog to Thunderbolt NVME 8 TB, 6 TB free and LRC has been abysimal. Sometimes deleting/resetting the preferences helps,. It has really affected my productivity and deadlines.
I wish Adobe would bring back a lighter version of LRC, like the v 12, less AI features, but a working Library module.

I am seeing the same issue with multiple instances of LRC in Task Manager that started when I tried to import, but now doesn't even allow the s/w to open. When I kill any tasks and try to reopen LRC, it enters a loop and never displays a screen. That loops shows up in the Lightroom folder, where, with the background instance still running, I can see the ...lrcat-shm, and ...lrcat-wal open and close repeatedly. There are also a Temporary Import Data.db and Temporary Import Data.db-wal that look like they are looping. I've tried versions 14.0.1, 13.5.1, and 13.3 versions for reinstalls, rebooting between each un/reinstall and get the same results.
My partner is the primary user on the troublesome computer (I have an identical Dell on Win 11 where all is fine with the update) and think this may have been going on in another form before the ver 14 update, as he just told me he has been running out of memory and would reboot to fix it.
Not on his computer right now so don't have the details of the operating system, et all. I'll update my post first thing tomorrow with that info..
So does anyone else see the looping files in the Lightroom folder? We're dead in the water at the moment.
I haven't yet called Adobe, as it's a Sunday and I don't feel like spending hours on this today.
Thanks,

I had the same problem with 14.0.1. Quit and then it wouldn't restart. It would be "stuck" with multiple instances in the Background Processes and the "files looping" like you mentioned. Adobe said that it's my GPU being under-powered/incompatible and reverted me back to 13.0. Everything is working at 13.5.1 as well.

That's what I find so weird. I have 2 identical computers. One, with a bunch of apps that are always on and simply minimized (mine), eating up RAM all the time, upgraded no sweat. The other, with the same exact hardware, GPU, RAM, OS, etc. does not work at all on any version. Sigh.

You may want to consider creating your own brand new post in discussions on that misbehaving computer.
In your new post:
- Describe what you do that results in failure
- If you can launch LrC for just a bit of time, then copy the system information as LrC reports it
- If you are able to grab that info, include it in your posting, include all info from first line down to and including plug-in's *info after plug-ins just so much gobbledygook)
- Tekk us where your catalog is
- Share a screenshot of the folder the catalog is in
- And include any error messages
Please please, do not add that other computers issues in this Discussion.

Hi, the other computer doesn't have any issues, I was just pointing out that identical hardware gives different results. I'm in touch with adobe support currently, and will post the solution to the software problem when we find one. Thanks for follow up and info.

I wonder if this is because of the video files. In Lr14, Adobe updated a file called dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe which seems to render files in different applications, and this file requires a certain version of Windows. The system requirements are here but are not clear-enough to be sure.
Try copying the card contents to your hard drive, separating the videos and other files, then import the non-video files. Do they import OK?
Try installing Bridge. Does it display the video files? If not, that may prove the above idea.
I'll report this to Adobe.

I think they are right. Your card is a low budget card and matches only the minimum requirements.
Lightroom needs a powerful card and the experience has shown that NVidia cards are the most suitable.
I worked with an RTX 3060 with the latest Studio version of the device driver without any problems.
In my opinion this card has a good price/performance ratio.

I am wondering if that gives a clue, or perhaps is a odd occurrence when attempting to import stills and video in the current fouled up LrC??

Show us the ENTIRE import screen. Do not chop off the right side as you did. We don't need to see the Library module, which is what you showed.

Here you go. I showed the screen it was "stuck" on. The Import screen had nothing unusual. Same screen I have seen millions of times.

In the Destination Panel, is a folder selected? I can't tell because it is too long to fit on the screen.
And just to be 100% sure, you are clicking on "Import" and not clicking on "Done", right?
Have you checked your card reader for malfunctions? Perhaps by using a different card reader; or by using the OS to copy the photos to a hard drive and then import from there? Could it be the USB port that is a problem? Connect to a different USB port.

Yes, folder selected. And clicked Import, yes. I have used Lightroom since version 1.0. This is routine for me.
I have tried to copy the files directly from the card to the drive and tried to import from the folder and that failed, too. The USB port works just fine. Lightroom Classic just would not import regardless of location of the files.
