LR Classic fails to display options dialog when Edit In (Photopshop) command used

LR does send the CR2 or DNG version off with edits to Photoshop- but fails to display the dialog that allows you to convert to Tiff

and make a copy in the LR with LR changes  catalog before sending image off to Photoshop for editing.

However- an image which is already a tiff file in LR does bring up the dialog....and works correctly....

I have tried resetting all warning and dialogs  for the app,,, running a Mac with OS X Sierra and latest updates of PS CC and LR Classic.....

The special "privileged" workflow between Lightroom and Photoshop of a compatible version, is to have LR cause an unsaved image to be opened by PS straight into memory, via ACR.

There are 3 ways to have Lightroom create and save the TIFF, and import that, before opening the image into an external editor:

    • Use an older version of Photoshop / ACR, which is not fully compatible with the Lightroom version you are using
    • Set up some non-Adobe editor program, in an additional external editor preset
    • Set up your contemporary PS, as an additional external editor preset, and use that preset instead of the normal Ctrl+E shortcut.

Since none of these options supports the special "privileged" workflow, Lightroom's left no choice but to render a TIFF itself, up front.

When sending a raw file to Photoshop, it will first open open in Camera Raw (behind the scenes), where adjustments from Lightroom are applied. Then it opens in Photoshop, and is no longer a raw file - until you save it, it's just a generic file.

When you save it, it will become a Tiff or PSD, depending on what you have chosen under Preferences > External Editing in Lightroom, and appear in Lightroom next to the original raw file.

There is no need to have the "copy" option, because it will have to be a copy - Photoshop cannot save raw files.
