Question

LR Desktop doesn't upload to cloud in full resolution. Photos exported from mobile collections are pixelated?

My normal work flow for the last couple of months has been:

Saving my photos to my PC hard drive

import them into LR desktop

From there I add the ones I like to collections on my phone via the adobe cloud.

Edit on my way to work

And upload on the go

Here's the issue.

I've been happy with this for a bit because all I do is edit them and upload to instagram. But I've noticed they're being saved to my gallery at a lower quality. All options whether it's sharing or exporting to gallery do this. Even if I select highest quality when exporting.

After a bit of research I found out that LR Desktop uploads "smart previews" to the cloud and keeps full images at home. So here is my question...

What the hell?!

I'm no where near professional, so I shouldn't need to pixel peep my photos but, sometimes they come out horrible, especially panoramics!

How, if possible, can I get lightroom to use full resolution on my mobile? If the answer is no chance, does anyone have an alternative method or program that lets me edit and upload at full resolution?

It is best to understand there are two separate methods:

- Photos sync’d from a collection in LR CC desktop - smart previews are sent to the cloud.

- Photos imported directly into LR Mobile on phone or tablet – originals are sent to the cloud.

Ahh, that's pretty odd. So in future I should be uploading through my phone. Then I can still edit on my PC and phone in full quality? Will, once I edit on my phone, the pictures be downsized?

Yes the full size originals will go up to the cloud and then down to LR CC desktop. You can set a specific folder or dated folders (if preferred) in preferences >> LR mobile from the desktop menu.

From LR mobile your edits will also be sync’d with the original on desktop. If you share socially e.g. Instagram, Facebook etc. those sites will probably apply their own compression. Otherwise you are best to export a copy to your hard drive/device folder and choose the highest quality.
