Hi...I cannot open LR Classic. I have the following message on my screen:

Lightroom - Opening Catalog: DSCF0343.RAF

I have tried to:

- remove the associated "lock" file

- uninstall LR Classic

Neither can be performed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

DSCF0343.RAF is a photo file, not a catalog. You cannot open a photo file with Lightroom Classic, you can only open catalogs with LrC.

Please state clearly, step-by-step, the steps that produce this error. Are you trying to drag and drop the file DSCF0343.RAF onto the LrC icon?

Using your OS file manager, find your catalog (something.lrcat) and double click on it to open it in LrC.

If that works, check in the Preferences, in the General tab, what is in the Default Catalog section.

Close Lr.

Reopen while holding the Alt key - this will allow you to choose a catalogue.

Choose an appropriate catalogue.

Ok, Reopen while holding the Alt key, but select to create a new catalog. This as a diagnostic.

Another possible solution is to rename the preference file. (Rename not delete so that if it doesn't solve the problem, you can restore your current preferences).
