I am considing replacing my 2017 Macbook Pro with OS High Sierra with a new Macbook Pro 16" with OS Ventura.  I am curently using LRC 9.4 and have a large catalog of 80K images.  A) can LRC 12 run on a mac with OS Ventura, I assume yes.  B) can I upload/update my catalog from LRC 9.4 into LRC 12 running on the new laptop?    Many thanks

Yes it runs, and for most people there are no problems, but review the current Ventura issues with Lightroom Classic in case any of them affect you:

LR should run fine on your new Mac.  Use the Mac Migration Assistant to copy all your apps and files from the old computer to the new one, then update to LR 12 using the Creative Cloud desktop app.  You may have to download the latest version of the Creative Cloud app from adobe.com if the one copied from your old computer doesn't work (it should, but the emulation of old Intel programs on Apple Silicon Macs isn't perfect).

When you start LR 12, it may ask to automatically update your catalog to LR 12-format, but if it doesn't, you can do LR's File > Open Catalog to navigate manually to the LR 9 catalog file.

If you're not using Migration Assistant and copying things manually, see this article:
