Question

LrC 14.3 preview generation much slower

After noticing switching images in Develop was significantly slower in 14.3 I did some further testing against 14.2 - in each case I did the following steps.
Renamed Prefs, etc so app behaves as a clean install
Created a new catalog
Imported 480 images with minimal previews
Selected all images in Library and created 1:1 previews

14.2 took 313s
14.3 took 710s

I also note that 14.3 seems to have a fix to stop thumbnails reverting to embedded previews and wonder if that fix has caused the new issue.

Windows 11, 24H2 build: 26100.3775, Ryzen 3900x, RTX 3080, 64gb ram

I have exact same problem, 14.3.1. much slower when switching images in Develop mode.

Everything was OK in 14.2. version

Worst case for 14.3 it takes around 3 times as long as 14.2 to switch.

    The 1:1 preview issue described above is not the same issue that the op originally raised in the thread you refer to. That thread relates to Embedded Previews, although I acknowledge that the OP did also mention 1:1 in a later post.

    What format of images are you working on?
    Where are the catalog & source images stored, internal or external drives? 
    Please include the System info as well.

    Anyone else notice that moving between images in 14.3 is significantly slower than 14.2?
    In 14.2 the switch is almost instant, even outside of the cached range. In 14.3 just clicking on the next image in the strip and the delay is 2 or 3 seconds. 

     

    Tested with a brand new catalog and vanilla settings.

    I did notice that 14.3 seems to have a fix for thumbnails no longer reverting to the embdedded preview once they've been viewed in Develop so I wonder if the slow down is somehow related to that "fix"?

    I have not noticed that in LrC 14.3, Windows 11. Please provide your system information (Help->System Info)

     

    Try resetting preferences https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

    Clean install does not delete the preference file. I do not know about cache.

    I renamed all the root Adobe folders in AppData so it was a clean install.

    Further testing shows loading images with the embedded preview badge is noticably slower than those with an existing preview when compared to 14.2 doing the same thing.
