There is a pinned Quick Tip post about enabling Full Disk Access on M1 based Macs.

Are there any concerns about doing this and is it really necessary/needed?

Correct answer TheDigitalDog

Giving all applications that need full disk access is absolutely necessary. If you want them to work.

There are no concerns, except that not doing it will stop Lightroom Classic from working correctly...

What could possibly be the problem letting Lightroom Classic access your disks?

Yes it is really necessary.
