Question

LrC compatibility with Ventura 13.2.1?

I have tried many many solutions now - 2 different adobe tech support people have been given remote access to my computer and failed to resolve the problem. I've just re-installed the operating system.

And still all I get is the splash screen and the spinning wheel and massive energy use.

Big shame when I've just bought a new computer expressly to use lightroom classic!  I am at the point of reverting to Lightroom (not classic) and waiting till adobe sorts this out.

But I would be interested to hear if anyone is successfully using lightroom classic on m1 with ventura 13.2.1 because at the moment I just don't think it's possible.

I have similar issues after updating to LR 12.2.1 (and OS 13.2.1). I don't see photos inside my folders but can find them via Finder on my external Photos drive. Had worked with 2 Adobe techs in one-hour and two-hour sessions without a solution one week apart. I told them the only thing that worked for me partially (some photos show up where they are not supposed to) was to reinstall LR 12.1 instead (advice found on this forum, after trying all the potential fixes listed here), and that's where we left it. Adobe doesn't seem to know many people have this issue. Both techs asked me where I found this suggestion. They wanted to close my service ticket because supposedly I was unresponsive to their follow-up emails, when in fact the 2nd tech just called me the day before! It feels like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I feel very frustrated!!

@FeyC  you are likely experiencing this issue - not the issue on this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-no-photos-in-selected-folder-mac/idi-p/13594019

Thank you, Rikk. What is the solution for the incompatibility issue of OS 13.2.1 and LR 12.2.1? When will the fix be available? I can use LR 12.1. However, many random pictures from different time periods would show up in various incorrect folders. This worries me as I'm pulling and editing photos from different years to create a project/

This is (probably) a known issue. Adobe has verified this workaround has no risks. Until they can release an update please follow these steps:

  • Close LrC if open
  • Locate metrics.json file
    File Locations:
    Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/metrics.json
    Win: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\metrics.json
  • Remove or rename the file

Lightroom should now launch normally.

See also this thread and do note that the location mentioned is hidden by default: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-lrc-12-2-1-fails-to-start-launch-or-is-extre...

I did this and it worked! Thanks so much.
Was definitely worth waiting for a few (many!) other people to have the same problem and a relatively simple solution to be found.  Just hope it sticks.

Runs just fine for me in the lastest version of Ventura.

Did you try deleting your preferences?

Try logging into another Mac user account (you should make a new one); still crashing?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting*), still crashing?
You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still crashing?

* How to start your M1/M2 Mac in Safe Mode
On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
Press and hold the power button until the startup disks and Options appear.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

I am running LrC on an M1 mini with Ventura, everything updated. I have six external hard drives plugged in, and it works great. Have you thought of going to the Apple Store and seeing if they can find any problems? I used to work for Apple and the techs are pretty good. They can take a look at log files and such to possibly track down the problem.

Just to inform that I manage to open Lightroom Classic after creating a different Mac user account (not admin) and it worked. So the problem happens when I use the main user (admin).

There is some incompatibility with the admin user that I have to figure out what it is.

At least I manage to use Lightroom Classic.

I am also having problems running Lightroom Classic with Ventura 13.2.1

Don't know what else I can do. I have already re-installed the operating system twice. I have re-istalled everything I had from creative cloud and all the adobe programs I have such as Photosop, Illustrador and so on and nothing seems to work. I have tryed adobe's tech support and no one seems to understand the problem.

Hi everyone,

thanks for your response and suggestions. I'm happy to report that I had the thought that maybe there was an issue with my external drive. since many of you are photogs, you, like me, are probably using an external drive for your very large raw files. i ejected my drive and restarted it. voila! now things are back on track. i have no idea what caused this issue, and if it will work for you, but give it a shot! To Adobe: maybe tell us why this would be the case? clearly, this is a bug ... thanks everyone!! good luck!

Usually when it's an external drive, that hints that Full Disk Access may not be properly implemented, so do check it in Security & Privacy.

Here's a link about it (which I actually got from @JohanElzenga )

I use LR classic on my M1 Max running Ventura 13.2.1 and it works perfectly fine. Never heard of a problem with it until this thread. There are some small incompatibilities but nothing that would prevent it from running. You do need to make sure to give Lightroom Classic Full disk access in Privacy and Security in System Preferences. Also it sounds like you haven't tried the no1 trouble shooting thing, which is deleting the Lightroom Classic preferences: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

Have you tried creating a fresh user on your Mac and running Classic from there?

Hi, I'm new to the forum but I am having the same issue and pulling my hair out. I have a project deadline and unfortunately updating my imac to ventura without googling if there were any issues. my lightroom classic won't function properly, making it useless. i also spent a lot of time with apple support--nothing worked. ive searched this forum for hours tryign to find a solution. i have the latest ventura 13.2.1 and the latest lightroom classic 12.2.1 and it's so upsetting as my whole project is riding on my finishing this in a few days. could someone please please give me some advice. can it really be true that lightroom classic is not compatable with the latest mac OS upgrate (ventura)??? how can this be???

No, it isn't true that Lightroom Classic is not compatible with MacOS Ventura. It's definitely is compatible, although that obviously does not mean that nobody can or will have any problems. There are some issues with folders not showing any images in version 12.2.1. This has been reported and is under investigation. Apparently downgrading to 12.2 solves the problem for people who are affected by this. Some people are affected, most people (including me) have no problems with that.

@Tessa288894707bf6 and @master_care0D4C you need to understand that there is no known bug that makes Lightroom Classic not run on MacOS Ventura, so waiting for Adobe to fix that 'bug' means you will wait forever. This is a problem on your computer, so that is where the fix is needed.

I understand how frustrating it can be to have a problem like this and to conclude that none of the suggestions work. But that still does not change the fact that this must be fixed on your computer. Like @Jao vdL said, and like I already suggested too, create a new MacOS account and see if Lightroom Classic runs on that account. If it does, then we know more and may be able to point you in the right direction.

I have the same problem:  Lightroom Classic just cannot load!  I have a clean  install of  Ventura 13.4,so this should not  be a problem of the computer settings! So many have come across this  problem and you call it not a bug , some kind of worm,Ok?

You did a clean install of the OS, installed only LRc and then what happened when you launch it?

Yes, Lightroom Classic actually works fine on my MBP 16" M1 Max running MacOS Ventura 13.2.1 and on many other M1 Macs. I'm sorry that I can't help you with your problem, but you are giving precious little info about what you already tried, except that you reinstalled MacOS which is hardly ever the solution. Did you reset the Lightroom Classic preferences? Did you try with a different/new catalog? Did you try with a different computer account?

Thank you for confirming that it is POSSIBLE because I was really starting to doubt it.

I haven't tried setting up a new account.  I've run out of patience for dealing with this problem now.

I (and the adobe techs) have resent the preferences and reset the catalogs and un-installed and re-installed lightroom classic and the whole adobe suite.  It has access to the hard drive.  I have deleted all other apps that run in the background.  Apple support got me to restart the computer in safe mode and try to launch it from there, that also didn't work.

Re-installing the operating system was my last ditch attempt.

Lightroom, photoshop and rush all work, as does every other app on my computer.

I've run out of hours to spend on this so I'll wait until Adobe sorts out these bugs and try again in a few weeks.
