LrC – RAW3 Colors Change in Develop Module (Canon R6 Mark II)

Hello,
I recently upgraded to a Canon R6 Mark II from a Canon 5D Mark III. While using the Canon 5D Mark III, I was shooting in RAW2 format, and my custom presets worked perfectly. However, after switching to the R6 Mark II, the colors do not match when I apply the same presets to RAW3 files. Despite adjusting settings in Lightroom Classic (LrC), the colors remain off and appear faded when I move from the LrC preview to the Develop module.

Interestingly, both the Mac Preview app and the Lightroom Classic preview show the correct colors, but once I enter the Develop module, the colors look washed out.

I’ve tried the following:

  • Resetting Camera Raw Cache
  • Adjusting profiles in the Develop module (including Adobe Color, Adobe Standard, and Camera Matching)
  • Testing with the Soft Proofing tool

None of these solutions have resolved the issue, and the colors in LrC are still not accurate in the Develop module compared to what I see in the Mac Preview app or on the camera screen.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue with Canon R6 Mark II or RAW3 format in Lightroom Classic? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

It clearly states that you are looking at an embedded preview in the Library Module selection.

Thank you for your response. I selected "Build Previews" as Standard. This makes the colors in the Library and Develop modules match. I also disabled "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing" under Preferences > Performance > Develop. However, now the colors appear faded in both Library and Develop.

When I import photos and click on them one by one, they first appear normal for about 0.5 seconds, then immediately become washed out—contrast decreases, exposure increases, and warm tones like skin and lips lose their richness.

Maybe I am not explaining my issue correctly, but I have been struggling with this for a month, and it is very frustrating. Even two Adobe support agents remotely accessed my computer to fix the issue, but they couldn’t resolve it. At this point, I don’t know what else to do.

This is perfectly normal for RAW originals. There is no way to turn it off. The first "normal" appearance is showing the embedded JPG preview in the RAW file, put there by the camera. Then LrC generates its own preview, which often does look washed out; it is your job to edit the photo to make it appear the way you want it to appear. You can apply LrC presets at import to improve the appearance and avoid most of the washed out look.

To get a starting point more to your taste, you could try changing the camera profile from Adobe Color to one of the camera-matching profiles, e.g. Camera Faithful or Camera Standard:

These camera-matching raw profiles approximate the JPEG rendering that cameras use for various camera settings.

Thank you for your suggested solution. I have also tried changing the monitor profiles, and I just tested it again, but the problem still persists. My main issue is that there is a color difference between the Lightroom Library and the Develop module. The yellow and orange tones in the Library appear stronger compared to how they are displayed in the Develop module.
