Mac Crashes on Lightroom Import

Community Beginner ,

Hi all - I have been having an issue with my Macbook Pro (2021 M1) crashing on the first photo import attempt. It does not seem to matter how many photos I try to import, the computer crashes upon hitting the import button. After restarting the computer, it usually imports without issues. I have started doing one bogus import to let the computer crash so that I can get on with actual work. I saw one other post about someone's M2 Mac behaving in a possibly similar way, but otherwise I can't find any information or answers about this. I am not sure if this started with an update of LR or the Mac - it seemed to start randomly several months or longer ago. The Mac itself seems fine - All other apps behave normally. My colleague with an older Mac does not have this problem. Any ideas? Thanks

@Aleke Thank you for checking in. I think I was able to isolate the issue to the external hard drive (My Passport for Mac SSD), where I had been storing the photo files. I transferred all of my LRC photo files to a new external hard drive (OWC Envoy Pro FX) and so far I've imported files three times in a row as a test without any issues (it had been every single time). If the problem starts up again I will write back on this thread, but so far seems like an issue with the SSD.

Are you talking about Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? What version NUMBER? We need the version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date".

If the entire MAC crashes, not just your Lr or LrC crashes, this is almost always a hardware malfunction somewhere.
