Question

Masking causing blackout on photos

Before I uninstall and reinstall LRC, wondering if anyone else has this problem or knows how to fix it? This is happening intermittently in LRC for me. I think it started this fall, but perhaps it was earlier?  It's been intermittent.  Usually it’s when/if I try to make a mask. Instead of seeing any adjustments that I am doing, I see nothing but black. But this time I was able to mask no problem, but when I exported this black mess came up. Do you happen to know what I am doing wrong? I’ve searched the internet…I don’t think I am asking the right question.  I use a Mac and both LR and the Mac are updated.

What happens if you turn off the GPU acceleartion in LrC? Go to Preferences->Performance->uncheck Use Graphics Processor

Sure.  MacBook Pro.  2.4 GHz. 8 Core Intel Core i9.  AMD Radeon Pro 5500M.  4GB. Intel UHD. Graphics 630 1536 MB. 64 GB 2667 MGHz DDR4 MacIntosh HD Sonoma 14.1.1.  Recently updated.  The problem started with the Lightroom update 2 updates ago.

Are you running LRC 13.1? Did the problem start at LR 13.0? Sorry, we often see people say that they are running the very latest LR Classic and then it turns out they are several versions behind.

This machine should not have problems like this and you should be able to use the GPU fully. As you know Adobe doesn't currently recommend upgrading Sonoma to 14.2 but there is a 14.1.2 update so that is something to do.
