Masking will only add to existing mask

Adobe has never released a buggier update to LR in it's entire history. Every photography group I'm in is raging about multiple problems. 100% have had the program slow down to unusable speeds. I teach LR and stand by and support this program all the time. I have articles published about how to speed LR up, but I cannot support this latest update. You have added too much crap and it's not working for any of us photographic professionals in the busiest season of the year. It is causing immense frustration.
The first problem that has been universal, is that the display doesn't move when you move to the next photo. In other words, I'm editing Photo A, move to Photo B (can see that I moved forward in the Filmstrip on bottom), but my editing screen still shows Photo A. Sat for a long while, no movement. I searched online for solutions and turned off Edit in Smart Previews, now it works 95% of the time, still having problems and now it's INSANELY slow.
Second one that I haven't heard anyone discuss and just came up for me. I have a line of groomsmen, each needs their face slightly lightened or darkened. I created the first 3 masks, "Groomsman 1", "Groomsman 2", "Groomsman 3". I went back to Groomsman 1 to add his hands to the mask, it worked fine, done it a million times. Then I hit the large + button on top to add an entirely new mask, and any mask that I add is now added inside of Groomsman 1. I left the Masking panel and returned again and again, I restarted Lightroom, opened it back up and still, any time I try to add a new mask, it only adds it to Groomsman 1. In fact if I even try to select Groomsman 2 or 3, it pops right back to selecting Groomsman 1. It's stuck on that mask.
iMac specs are below in a screenshot and my OS is fully upgraded to the current version of Sonoma.
PLEASE, PLEASE fix this disaster of an update!
